Teófilo Stevenson Lawrence was a Cuban amateur boxer who competed from 1966 to 1986. He won the Val Barker Trophy (1972) and was honored with the Olympic Order (1987). Stevenson is one of only three boxers to win three Olympic gold medals, alongside Hungarian László Papp and fellow Cuban Félix Savón.

Roach was the trainer of two-time women's world champion Lucia Rijker. He has also trained former light welterweight champion Amir Khan.
Christophe Mendy is a retired French boxer who represented France in the heavyweight division during the 1990s. He won the bronze medal at the 1995 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Berlin, Germany, where he was defeated in the semifinals by Cuban legend Félix Savon. A year later he ended up second at the 1996 European Amateur Boxing Championships in Vejle, Denmark. A couple of months later Mendy represented France at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia.

Boxing is a popular sport in Cuba. As of 1992, there were over 16,000 boxers on the island. Across Cuba today there are 494 boxing coaches and 185 facilities. Of the 99,000 athletes in Cuba currently, 19,000 are boxers, including 81 of Olympic competence, even though only 12 make the Olympic team. Professional boxing was banned from 1962 until April 2022.
Pedro Diaz is a Cuban-American boxing trainer and entrepreneur. As an amateur boxing trainer, Diaz worked with the Cuban national team for four Olympic Games in 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004. He also worked with the Dominican Republic for the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008.
