J.J.M. (Jos) Som (Didam, 12 October 1951) is a Dutch politician of the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA).

Originally a teacher, he became an alderman and deputy Mayor of Didam. From 1994 until 1999, he was mayor of Gulpen, and from 1997 he was also acting mayor for the neighbouring municipality of Wittem. On 1 January 1999, these municipalities fused into the new municipality of Gulpen-Wittem, of which he was mayor until the end of 2000. On 16 December 2000, he became mayor of Kerkrade, succeeding Thijs Wöltgens. He was reaffirmed in 2006 and 2012. In 2018, he became acting mayor until he was succeeded by Petra Dassen-Housen.

Incidents

In 2013, he got into the public view due to visiting a French vacation home of project developer Piet van Pol in 2003, who also developed the city centre of Kerkrade. Piet van Pol came into question earlier due to taking bribes from Roermond alderman Jos van Rey. [1] Som states that he was on a local camping when a friend asked him to come to the vacation home. He did not know van Pol personally. [2]

Huls, Netherlands Village in Limburg, Netherlands

Huls is a hamlet in the southeastern Netherlands. It is part of the municipality of Simpelveld in the province of Limburg, about 20 km east of Maastricht. The village lies on a hill, north of Simpelveld, and south of Ubachsberg. In 2008 the village had a population of 350 on an area of 0.44 km2. On the hillside south of Huls lies Hulsveld, a hamlet sharing the same name with a population of 1630. Since the hamlets share a single built-up area, and are both located on the hill called Huls, the village Huls is sometimes mistaken to include Hulsveld.

G. J. A. M. "GertJan" Nijpels was a Dutch administrator and a politician of the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy. He was the mayor of the municipality of Opmeer from May 15, 2005, until February 8, 2021, after serving as acting mayor from June 15, 2004, until May 15, 2005. Nijpels was due to retire during mid-2021, but died suddenly at the age of 69 on February 8, 2021.
