Jose F. Tosado is an American politician who served as a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from January 2015 to January 2021.

Career

A resident of Springfield, Massachusetts, he was elected as a Democrat to represent the 9th Hampden district. He is a member of the Massachusetts Black and Latino Legislative Caucus. [1] Tosado is a former president of the Springfield City Council. [2] [3]

In October 2014, Tosado was endorsed by The Republican, which noted "As a native of Puerto Rico, Tosado understands the special concerns of Latinos and will bring that voice to Beacon Hill." [4]

Tosado had previously been an unsuccessful candidate in the 2011 Springfield, Massachusetts mayoral election.

He has been nominated for the Argentine Film Critics Association's Silver Condor Award for Best Film for directing jazz documentary Van Van - Empezó la fiesta!, and has worked on several PBS documentaries including American Experience and Ken Burns' Jazz. A member of the Democratic Party, Vega began his political career in 2009 when he successfully ran as a city councilor in Holyoke, and subsequently ran successfully for state representative for the 5th Hampden district in 2012. In 2020, then-Mayor Alex Morse appointed Vega as Director of the City of Holyoke's Office of Planning and Economic Development, replacing outgoing director Marcos Marrero; Vega assumed the office on January 21, 2021, and would subsequently lead Mayor Josh Garcia's transition team.
