Joseph M. Mendiola was a member of the Senate of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). He represented the second senatorial district of Tinian & Aguiguan and was a member of the CNMI Covenant Party.
As Senate President of the 15th CNMI Legislature (2006–2008), Senator Mendiola co-founded the Outlying Areas Senate Presidents Caucus with his counterparts from Guam, Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico in December 2007.

The Senate of the Philippines is the upper house of Congress, the bicameral legislature of the Philippines; the House of Representatives is the lower house. The Senate is composed of 24 senators who are elected at-large with the country as one district under plurality-at-large voting.

Benjamin Taisacan Manglona was a politician and civil engineer in the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). He is the CNMI's longest serving elected official having served as a congressman, senator, and former mayor of Rota. Manglona served as the third Lieutenant Governor of the Northern Mariana Islands from 1990 to 1994 and as Mayor of Rota from 1998 to 2006.
Benigno Repeki Fitial was the seventh governor of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). The second longest-serving governor in CNMI history, Fitial was elected on November 6, 2005, assumed office on January 9, 2006, and was re-elected to a (five-year) second term in 2009. He was impeached by the CNMI House of Representatives on February 11, 2013 and was scheduled to face trial before the CNMI Senate to determine if he should be removed from office. He resigned on February 20, 2013 after 7 years, 1 month, and 11 days in office.
The Northern Mariana Islands Commonwealth Legislature is the territorial legislature of the U.S. commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. The legislative branch of the territory is bicameral, consisting of a 20-member lower House of Representatives, and an upper house Senate with nine Senators. Representatives serve two-year terms and Senators serve four-year terms, both without term limits. The territorial legislature meets in the commonwealth capital of Saipan.

The Outlying Areas Senate Presidents Caucus is an informal legislative body created in 2007, by leaders of the Senates of the U.S. states of Alaska and Hawaii, and the US territories of Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Northern Marianas Islands. The organization's inaugural meeting took place in Hawaii's State Capitol on December 11, 2007. It was attended by Hawaii Senate President Colleen Hanabusa, Alaska Senate Majority Leader Gary Stevens, Guam Legislature Acting Speaker Eddie Baza Calvo, Senate President Joseph Mendiola of the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands and Puerto Rico Senate President Kenneth McClintock, who convened the meeting.
Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan is a Northern Mariana Islander politician and former election commissioner. Elected in 2008, Sablan became the first delegate to the United States House of Representatives from the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
Lorenzo Iglecias De Leon Guerrero was a Northern Mariana Islander politician as a member of CNMI Republican Party, who was the third Governor of the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands from 1990 to 1994 and the first President of the Northern Mariana Islands Senate from 1978 to 1980.

Ralph Deleon Guerrero Torres is an American Republican politician from Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands. He has served as the ninth Governor of the Northern Mariana Islands since the death of Governor Eloy Inos on December 29, 2015. He previously served as the tenth Lieutenant Governor, having been elected to that post in 2014.
Janet Ulloa Maratita is a politician from the Northern Mariana Islands. She represents District No. 1 in the Northern Mariana Islands House of Representatives, of which she currently serves as Vice-Speaker. She chairs the Committee on Health and Welfare for the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation, and is vice-chair of the Health Committee; she is also a member of the Ways and Means Committee. She is currently a member of the Republican Party. Maratita was appointed to the 17th Legislature in 2011, replacing Diego Benavente; she had previously served in the House in the 14th Legislature. At the time an independent, she sat alongside Felicidad Ogumoro and Teresita Santos, marking the first time three women were simultaneously members of the body. In 2014 she declared her intent to run for a seat in the Northern Mariana Islands Senate in the election of 2014. Returned once more to the House of Representatives in 2016, she was elected Vice-Speaker when positions were meted out. Earlier in her political career Maratita gained attention for leading a lawsuit against then-governor Benigno Fitial, later co-authoring one of the two resolutions passed by the House calling for his impeachment. She later claimed that Senator Juan Ayuyu had repeatedly threatened her life in a telephone conversation regarding the lawsuit.
Legislative elections were held in Guam on November 8, 2016, along with the election for the Guam delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives. The Democratic Party won nine of the fifteen seats in the Legislature and maintained control of Guam's delegate seat. The fifteen elected members of the 34th Guam Legislature were inaugurated on January 2, 2017.
The CNMI Cannabis Act of 2018 is a bill introduced in the Northern Mariana Islands Commonwealth Legislature in 2017 as SB 20-62. It was introduced by Senator Sixto Igisomar and would legalize cannabis possession and consumption by adults and create a Cannabis Commission to regulate sales in the Commonwealth. Hearings on the act were held in October, 2017; a senator said it had the highest public attendance of any hearings he knew of. On May 16, 2018, SB 20-62 had a final vote in the Commonwealth's Senate, and was passed without opposition. On May 30, it passed the House Committee on Judiciary and Governmental Operations unanimously.
