Joseph N. Callahan was a record winning American endurance swimmer from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1907 he set the record for swimming the 12 miles of Manila Bay in 4.5 hours. [1]

He was the head coach of the Oakland Raiders for the 2002 and 2003 seasons and led them to Super Bowl XXXVII. He was also the head coach for the Nebraska Cornhuskers from 2004 to 2007 and the offensive line coach and interim head coach for the Washington Redskins from 2015 to 2019. Callahan is considered to be one of the best offensive line coaches in the NFL.

The 1907–08 WPHL season was the eighth season of operation for the Western Pennsylvania Hockey League (WPHL) and the first since the league went dormant in 1904. Four Pittsburgh-area teams made up the revived WPHL, in which all games were played at the Duquesne Gardens. Two teams were added to the league, the Pittsburgh Pirates and a team representing the Pittsburgh Lyceum.

Mercedes Carey was a British professional swimmer. She was the first known person to swim the Straits of Gibraltar and the first British woman to swim the English Channel. The name of Mercedes Gleitze was used to market Rolex's new waterproof case, the "Oyster". She established endurance records for swimming including a record of 46 hours in 1932. She was able to raise funds to found the Mercedes Gleitze Homes in Leicester via sponsorship. The Mercedes Gleitze charity is now linked to the Family Action charity.
