He has also been a member of the Iowa Barnstormers of the Arena Football League (AFL). Matthews played college football for Los Angeles Harbor College and the University of Kentucky.

He played college football at Cal Lutheran and was a CFL All-Star in 2015. Rogers has also been a member of the Dallas Cowboys, Portland Thunder, Calgary Stampeders, and San Francisco 49ers.
