Josiah Hungwe

Josiah Hungwe (born 7 November 1935) was a Provincial Governor of Masvingo and later became the pioneer Minister of State for Liaising on Psychomotor Activities in Education. [1] Hungwe is a member of Zimbabwe African National Union Patriotic Front (ZANU PF). [2] [3] [4] He is known for making controversial comments and denying them. For instance, on 25 May 2018, Hungwe remarked at a project commissioning ceremony that if President Emmerson Mnangagwa could shoot his way into power [5] in November the previous year, nothing would stop him from using same strategy to perpetuate himself in office. Hungwe later denied making such statement. [6] On 27 August 2018, he told an audience that he would retire from active politics once President Emmerson Mnangagwa was reelected but later recanted saying his statement had been misquoted in a jest. [7]

Political career

Hungwe political fortune started when he was appointed Minister of Labour. Later he became Provincial Governor for Masvingo but was soon ousted from office following allegation of leaking state secrets to the United States Embassy levelled against him, his wife and a former Labour Minister, July Moyo. [1] Hungwe was appointed the first Minister of State for Liaising on Psychomotor Activities in Education and was promoted to a Senior minister of the ministry Following electoral victory of Zanu-PF in the 2013 elections. He introduced vocational training into the curricular of Zimbabwean schools to be taught alongside other academic courses to make students employable when they leave school. [1]

Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa is a Zimbabwean revolutionary and politician who has served as President of Zimbabwe since 24 November 2017. A member of ZANU–PF and a longtime ally of former President Robert Mugabe, he held a series of cabinet portfolios and was Mugabe's Vice President until November 2017, when he was dismissed before coming to power in a coup d'état. He secured his first full term as president in the disputed 2018 general election.

Obert Moses Mpofu is a Zimbabwean politician, who served as Minister of Home Affairs from 2017 to September 2018. Previously he was Minister of Macro-Economic Planning and Investment Promotion; Minister of Industry and International Trade; Minister of Mines and Mining Development; and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development. The Cabinet of Zimbabwe was later dissolved on 27 November 2017. He was reappointed as Minister of Home Affairs in Mnangagwa's first cabinet on 30 November 2017. The Culture portfolio was added to his ministry. Mpofu was later removed from the Zimbabwe cabinet in September 2018.

Kembo Mohadi

Kembo Dugish Campbell Mohadi is one of two Vice-Presidents of Zimbabwe since 28 December 2017. He briefly served as the Minister of Defence, Security and War Veterans in 2017. Previously he was Minister of State for National Security in the President's Office from 2015 to 2017 and Minister of Home Affairs from 2002 to 2015.

Constantino Guveya Dominic Nyikadzino Chiwenga is a Zimbabwean politician and former army general currently serving, since 2017, as the First Vice-President of Zimbabwe under President Emmerson Mnangagwa. In August 2020, he added the Heath Ministry to his portfolio.

2018 Zimbabwean general election

General elections were held in Zimbabwe on 30 July 2018 to elect the President and members of both houses of Parliament. Held eight months after the 2017 coup d'état, the election was the first since independence in which former President Robert Mugabe was not a candidate.

Generation 40 (G40) was a faction of the Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front (ZANU–PF). The G40 was an informal group of ZANU–PF politicians working on generation change by replacing the older officials of the party. The group promoted itself as the younger, savvy, and well educated ZANU–PF members. It was said to be led by Jonathan Moyo and ZANU–PF political commissar, Saviour Kasukuwere but fronted by Grace Mugabe, the former First Lady of Zimbabwe.

Patrick Zhuwao is a Zimbabwean politician, businessman, and farmer. He served as Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare of Zimbabwe between October and November 2017. He was expelled from the ZANU–PF party during the 2017 Zimbabwean coup d'état.

Mabel Memory Chinomona is a Zimbabwean politician who is the current president of the Senate of Zimbabwe. Previously, she served as deputy speaker of the National Assembly from 2013 to 2018, and as MP for Mutoko North until her election as senate president in 2018. She has also served as secretary of the ZANU–PF Women's League since 2017.

Terrence Mukupe is a Zimbabwean politician who served as Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning in the cabinet of President Emmerson Mnangagwa between 2017 and 2018. Mukupe ran for Member of Parliament for Harare East in 2018 on the platform of Zanu-PF but lost to Tendai Biti.

Joel Biggie Matiza was a Zimbabwean politician and the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development since 2018. He died from COVID-19 on 22 January 2021.
