Joy de V. is a 2013 New York noir dramatic thriller film directed and written by Nadia Szold. [1] It won a Special Jury Mention at the 2013 Slamdance Film Festival. [2] The film starred Evan Louison, Josephine de La Baume, Iva Gocheva, and Claudia Cardinale. [3]

Plot

A young con artist, playing the system and collecting checks for a mental disability, is planning a public show to prove his madness when threatened with losing his disability checks. Before he is able to stage his rant, his pregnant girl friend disappears and he must search the city for her. [2]

A recurrent parallel is with the play Iphigénie, in which the three children had acted together, where two princesses compete for the flawed hero but one dies tragically.

Nadia Szold is a film director, producer and writer. She began working in theater in her teens in New England. After reading Waiting for Godot at 17, Nadia Szold formed Cojones Company. Fourteen plays later, she founded Cinema Imperfecta out of her apartment in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Hope & Anchor, Thievery, The Persian Love Cake and Some Kinda Fuckery were the first short films produced and directed under its banner in Paris and New York. Simultaneously, Szold worked for Robin O'Hara and Scott Macaulay of Forensic Films. She also earned a degree from Werner Herzog’s Rogue Film School.

Patricia Black is an American actress living in New York, where she has studied acting since 2007. In 2013, she played a supporting role in Nadia Szold's debut film, Joy de V..

Evan Morgan is a Canadian filmmaker and screenwriter. He is most noted for his 2020 film The Kid Detective, for which he was a Canadian Screen Award nominee for Best Original Screenplay at the 9th Canadian Screen Awards in 2021.
