History
The Juan S. Alano Memorial Hospital, Inc. was established in 1953 by its founder, first Assemblyman of Zamboanga Province to the National Assembly of the Philippine Commonwealth (1936–1941), and Congressman of the same at the 1st Philippine Congress (1946–1949), Don Juan S. Alano. With donated land given by the Basilan Estate, Inc. another company owned by Cong. Alano, and with the assistance of Dr. Jaime O. Rivera, his son-in-law and proprietor of the Rivera Hospital at Proj. 4, Quezon City, construction and training of the hospital and its medical staff started early in 1952.
The institution was then named and established as the Basilan Hospital, aimed at providing affordable healthcare service to the community as a non-stock, non-profit and charitable institution.
In 1959, the Basilan Hospital School of Midwifery was finally established, aimed at providing the educational needs of cultural minority groups as well as to train personnel to render specialized services in the field of midwifery.
After the death of the founder in 1966, Basilan Hospital was named after its founder and since then was known as Juan S. Alano Memorial Hospital, Inc. Currently the institution is duly accredited by the Department of Health as a Level 2 Category Hospital with an authorized bed capacity of fifty (50). It is also accredited with the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation as a Secondary category hospital with an authorized bed capacity of thirty (30). It is a member of the Philippine Hospitals Association (PHA) and the Private Hospitals Association of the Philippines (PHAP).
The hospital's total employee population is fifty-eight (56), composed of nine (9) Administrative Dept. Staff; eight (9) Nursing Dept. Staff; seven (5) Pharmacy, Radiology, and Medical Records Dept. Staff; fifteen (15) Midwives; eleven (11) Maintenance Dept. Staff; three (3) Dietary Dept. Staff; and five (4) Medical Dept. Staff.
The Juan S. Alano Memorial Hospital, Inc. is currently active in various medical missions for the underprivileged and underserved communities of the province together with the Juan S. Alano Memorial School, Inc. (formerly Basilan Hospital School of Midwifery) through the National Service Training Program (NSTP). The institution is also conducting various medical programs one of which is the free consultation and affordable eye surgery, which is conducted twice a year.
The Juan S. Alano Memorial Hospital, Inc. has forged ties with Family Planning of the Philippines (FPOP) throughout the 70s and 80s, promoting population management advocacies to the local community. It is currently working out a program on Adolescent Reproductive Health (ARH) initiatives with the Consuelo Foundation, to further institutionalize private-sector led programs aimed at disseminating vital information on Adolescent Reproductive health issues, condom use and HIV/AIDS prevention.
Although a declared non-sectarian organization, the Juan S. Alano Memorial Hospital, Inc., with an Episcopalian Chaplain, has established ties with Brent Hospital and Colleges of Allied Medicine located in Zamboanga City.
Basilan, officially the Province of Basilan, is an island province of the Philippines located primarily in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region. Basilan Island is the largest and northernmost of the major islands of the Sulu Archipelago. It is just off the southern coast of the geographic Zamboanga Peninsula.
Isabela, officially the City of Isabela, is a 4th class component city (separate) and de facto capital of the province of Basilan, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 130,379 people.
Molave, officially known as the Municipality of Molave, is a 1st class municipality in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines. In the 2020 census, it had 53,140 people. It is in the eastern part of the province of Zamboanga del Sur, and has an area of 21,685 hectares. The name "Molave" refers to the tree that was common in the area. Its economy is focused on agricultural production, and 1,378.5 hectares of fertile land is irrigated and planted with rice. Corn, coconut, cassava, banana, camote and various vegetables are also grown. These are marketed to neighboring towns and cities, and reach Cebu. Due to its strategic location, Molave is becoming the commercial hub of the Salug Valley. It is the most populous municipality in Zamboanga del Sur, and the third most populous in Region IX.
Far Eastern University – Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation, also referred to as FEU-NRMF, is a non-stock, non-profit medical foundation located at Regalado Ave., West Fairview, Quezon City in the Philippines. It operates a medical school and hospital center. The institution is related to, but independent from, Far Eastern University.
In the United States, a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) is a nurse midwife who exceeds the International Confederation of Midwives' essential competencies for a midwife and is also an advanced practice registered nurse, having completed registered nursing and midwifery education leading to practice as a nurse midwife and credentialing as a Certified Nurse-Midwife. CNMs provide care of women across their lifespan, including pregnancy and the postpartum period, and well woman care and birth control. Certified Nurse-Midwives are recognized by the International Confederation of Midwives as a type of midwife in the U.S.
The De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute (DLSMHSI) is a medical school and allied health institution in Dasmariñas, Cavite, Philippines. It was established in 1979 and is a constituent of De La Salle Philippines. The institute consists of three service divisions: the academic division - consisting of the colleges and a senior high school, its teaching hospital - De La Salle University Medical Center, and a research facility - Angelo King Medical Research Center. It is situated nearby the De La Salle University-Dasmariñas, a separate De La Salle campus where it is often mistaken as part of due to its proximity.
The healthcare delivery system of Pakistan is complex because it includes healthcare subsystems by federal governments and provincial governments competing with formal and informal private sector healthcare systems. Healthcare is delivered mainly through vertically managed disease-specific mechanisms. The different institutions that are responsible for this include: provincial and district health departments, parastatal organizations, social security institutions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and private sector. The country's health sector is also marked by urban-rural disparities in healthcare delivery and an imbalance in the health workforce, with insufficient health managers, nurses, paramedics and skilled birth attendants in the peripheral areas. Pakistan's gross national income per capita in 2021 was $4,990 and the total expenditure on health per capita in 2021 was Rs 657.2 Billion, constituting 1.4% of the country's GDP. The health care delivery system in Pakistan consists of public and private sectors. Under the constitution, health is primarily responsibility of the provincial government, except in the federally administered areas. Health care delivery has traditionally been jointly administered by the federal and provincial governments with districts mainly responsible for implementation. Service delivery is being organized through preventive, promotive, curative and rehabilitative services. The curative and rehabilitative services are being provided mainly at the secondary and tertiary care facilities. Trinity University of Asia, also known as TUA or simply Trinity, is a non-sectarian private university located in Quezon City, Philippines. It was named after Trinity College (Connecticut) whose president then was the founder's father. Formally established in 1963 as an elementary, high school and collegiate educational institution by the Protestant Episcopalians, it dates back its earliest establishment in 1907 when the Trinity University of Asia - St. Luke's College of Nursing, its oldest organic academic unit, was established under the St. Luke's Hospital, the present day St. Luke's Medical Center. Riverside College, Inc., also referred to by its acronym RCI, is a private non-sectarian coeducational higher education institution in Bacolod, Negros Occidental, Philippines. The college is owned and operated by Metro Pacific Health - the largest private hospital group in the Philippines and part of the MVP Group of Companies. It is notable for being the first school affiliated with a teaching hospital in Bacolod City. It offers education programs from senior high school, college, graduate school, and vocational school. To date, it remains to be the biggest allied health college in Negros Occidental with college courses raging from Nursing, Radiologic Technology, Physical Therapy, Pharmacy, Medical Technology, and Psychology. Velez College is a private educational institution in Cebu City, Cebu, widely known for offering allied health degrees. It was founded by Dr. Jacinto Velez Sr. in 1952, who was then chairman of the board of trustees of Cebu (Velez) General Hospital School of Nursing. It was incorporated under the Philippine Corporation Law on March 28, 1966. The institution has four component colleges: College of Arts and Sciences, College of Medical Technology, College of Nursing, and College of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy.
Basilan is an island province of the Philippines. It is the largest and northernmost of the major islands of the Sulu Archipelago and is located just off the southern coast of Zamboanga Peninsula. Its capital is Lamitan. Basilan is home to three main ethnic groups, the indigenous Yakans, and the later-arriving Tausugs and Zamboangueños. Zamboanga City, officially the City of Zamboanga, is a 1st class highly urbanized city in the Zamboanga Peninsula region of the Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 977,234 people. It is the fifth-most populous and third-largest city by land area in the Philippines and also the second most populous in Mindanao after Davao City. It is the commercial and industrial center of the Zamboanga Peninsula Region.

The DMC-College Foundation, Inc. (DMC-CFI), also known as DMC De La Salle, supervised by De La Salle Brothers, is a paramedical institution of the province of Zamboanga del Norte. It is situated in suburban Dipolog and occupies 22,500 square meters of land area. Its sprawling expanse contains several buildings which include the DMC Hospital and its laboratories, the four-storey Basic Education and School of Hotel Restaurant and Institution Management Building, the six-room IT Center, the four-storey Nursing Building with the Nursing Arts Center on the fourth floor and on the top floor the campus radio 100.5 Radyo Natin Dipolog and the library which covers the entire ground floor, the Arts and Sciences building with separate structures for a Zoology lab, the cafeteria, and the DMC Covered Court for sports and other activities.
José F. Fabella was a Filipino physician and a public health advocate regarded in a biography as the "father of public health and social welfare in the Philippines."
The COVID-19 pandemic in Bangsamoro is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The virus reached the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao on March 11, 2020, when the first case of the disease was confirmed in Lanao del Sur. Cases has been confirmed in Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, and the independent city of Cotabato.
