Prior to serving as Assistant Secretary of State,she was Chief of Staff for longtime U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski. [2]
The United States secretary of the interior is the head of the United States Department of the Interior. The secretary and the Department of the Interior are responsible for the management and conservation of most federal land along with natural resources,leading such agencies as the Bureau of Land Management,the United States Geological Survey,Bureau of Indian Affairs and the National Park Service. The secretary is a member of the United States Cabinet and reports to the president of the United States. The Department of the Treasury (USDT) is the national treasury and finance department of the federal government of the United States,where it serves as an executive department. Assistant Secretary of State (A/S) is a title used for many executive positions in the United States Department of State,ranking below the under secretaries. A set of six assistant secretaries reporting to the under secretary for political affairs manage diplomatic missions within their designated geographic regions,plus one assistant secretary dealing with international organizations and one equivalent as the coordinator/ambassador at large for counterterrorism. Assistant secretaries usually manage individual bureaus of the Department of State. The Executive Committee of the National Security Council was a body of United States government officials that convened to advise President John F. Kennedy during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. It was composed of the regular members of the National Security Council,along with other men whose advice the President deemed useful during the crisis. EXCOMM was formally established by National Security Action Memorandum 196 on October 22,1962. It was made up of twelve full members in addition to the president. Advisers frequently sat in on the meetings,which were held in the Cabinet Room of the White House's West Wing and secretly recorded by tape machines activated by Kennedy. None of the other committee members knew the meetings were being recorded,save probably the president's brother,Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy.
