Julia Wu (table tennis)

Julia Wu is a right-handed table tennis player from New Zealand who has represented New Zealand and Oceania in a number of international championships, including the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics held in Singapore and the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju. She plays with a shakehand grip. In the 2009 ASB Young Sports Person of the Year Awards, Wu was a finalist in the Girls Table Tennis section. [1]

Sporting career

Wu was professionally trained in Auckland, where she was part of the high performance programme within the Auckland Table Tennis Association.

When asked about representing New Zealand, she replied: "It means a lot – I would've never thought that I would have made it but I did, so I am extremely happy to be part of the team." [2]

Table tennis at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics

The table tennis competition at the 2010 Summer Youth Olympics took place in Singapore Indoor Stadium between 21 and 26 August, with training hall set in National University of Singapore (NUS). 64 athletes composed of 32 boys and 32 girls at the age between 14 and 16 competed in different events of Men's Singles and Women's Singles. Further, each athlete paired with another athlete of the opposite sex participated in Mixed Team event. Each team match consisted of the best of three matches. The Women's Singles was played first, followed by Men's Singles and Mixed Doubles.

Jenny Hung is a semi-professional table tennis player from Christchurch, New Zealand. She is currently ranked #3 in New Zealand, #19 in Oceania and #662 in the world for Open Women's table tennis. Hung has been the top ranked female junior in New Zealand for the past several years and is a representative player for both Canterbury region and New Zealand. Her most notable achievement came at the 2009 Australian Junior Open, where she became the first New Zealander and the first player from Oceania to win an ITTF Junior Circuit Singles title.

Melissa Tapper is an Australian table tennis player. After competing at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, she represented Australia at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in elite non-Paralympic competition. In March 2016, she became the first Australian athlete to qualify for both the Summer Olympics and Summer Paralympics.

Ariel Yenhua Hsing is an American table tennis player who competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Lily Ann Zhang is an American table tennis player who competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London with teammates Ariel Hsing and Erica Wu. She also competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio with teammates Jiaqi Zheng and Jennifer Wu. She is a five time US national champion in women's singles. Zhang has won the US national championship in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2019. In 2011, she was a bronze medalist in women's singles and women's team at the Pan American Games and won the women's doubles title at the Qatar Peace and Sport Cup. She is currently a member of the United States National Women's team. She has been ranked as high as #2 in the cadet (U-15) world ranking and #5 in the junior (U-18) world ranking.

Erica Wu American table tennis player (born 1996)

Erica Shen-Ning Wu is an American table tennis player who competed in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. She was the 2011 and 2012 US national champion in women's doubles and reached the semifinals in women's singles at the 2011, 2012 and 2013 US national championships. She was part of the US team that won the bronze medal at the 2011 Pan American Games. At the 2012 North American Championships, Wu was the runner-up in women's singles behind fellow Olympian Lily Zhang. As of 2018 she was a senior at Princeton University studying computer science. As of 2019, she is working as a Software Engineer at Facebook.

The objective is not to create a combined medal table; the focus is on listing the best positions achieved by athletes in major global events, ranking the countries according to the most podiums accomplished by athletes of these nations.
