Julio Cesar Pino is a former [1] tenured Associate Professor of History at Kent State University in Kent,Ohio,specializing in Latin American History and the Third World. He was fired in April 2018. He is a Fulbright Scholar and a member of Phi Beta Kappa. His courses include "Comparative Third World Revolutions",Afro-Latin America,History of Women in Latin America" and "The Sixties:A Third World View." [2]
In 1997 he published "Family and Favela:the Reproduction of Poverty in Rio de Janeiro" (Greenwood Press),dealing with household organization and the feminization of poverty in the Rio shantytowns. He is the author of numerous articles in Latin American Research Review,Journal of Urban History,Latin American Perspectives and other journals. Dr. Pino also has a deep interest in pedagogy,and has published articles in "The History Teacher" and "Perspectives" magazine of the American Historical Association. His current research project is a study of nineteenth-century African Muslim slaves and free persons in Brazil. Dr. Pino is listed in Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in America. He is a Contributing Editor of Latin American Perspectives. He is also engaged in a study of the historiography of working women in Latin America from pre-colonization to globalization. [2]
Dr. Pino's writings on Third World shantytowns have been published and cited in critical reference works such as Africana:The Encyclopedia of the African and African American Experience (DuBois Center:Harvard University) and Encyclopedia of Third World Poverty. His books and articles are regularly taught in courses,from women's studies to urban history,at leading universities in the United States,Europe and Latin America. [2]

Pino has been involved in a long series of controversies relating to American foreign policy,Islam,suicide bombing,jihad,and Israel. [4] These include a 2012 newspaper column praising the actions of the terrorist who carried out the Kiryat Yovel supermarket bombing, [5] and a letter critical of American policy that read,in part,"You attack,and continue to attack,us everywhere... The ill done to the Muslim nations must be requited." [6] In 2011 he was investigated by the Secret Service after calling president Bush a "cocaine cowboy." [6] In November 2007,Kent State demoted the chair of the history department for failing to follow procedure when it authorized a fully paid,mid-semester,6-week trip to the United Arab Emirates where Pino wished to study Arabic. Pino was recalled to his teaching post before completing the 6 weeks. [6] In 2011 a public controversy ensued after Pino shouted "Death to Israel" during a talk given at Kent State by Ishmael Khaldi,an Israeli diplomat. University President Lester Lefton condemned Pino's behavior as "reprehensible,and an embarrassment to our university," defending Pino's right to free speech but finding his behavior,"deplorable." [7] [8] [6] [9] [10] Pino has been involved in a series of anti-Israel actions,writing an open letter in 2014 asserting of Israeli Jews that,"The Chosen drain the blood of innocents." [11]
Julio Pino returned to the headlines in January 2016 when information surfaced that the FBI was interviewing students and professors for possible ties between Pino and ISIS. Pino denied the allegations against him in an email to Inside Higher Ed,saying,"My only commitment is to serve my students as guided by the light of knowledge. I have no ties to any political organization,nor do I recruit for any cause." A university spokesperson confirmed that he is still teaching at this time. Kent State said in a statement that it is cooperating with an ongoing investigation,and said the FBI had assured it there was no threat to the campus. [12] [13] Pino said neither the FBI nor Homeland Security has notified him of any sort of investigation. [4]
Pino was charged in April 2018 by federal prosecutors with one count of making false statements to law enforcement,relative to a separate 2016 investigation into his connections with a man in St. Louis who had threatened a family court judge. Pino plead guilty to the charges,with a plea agreement for a prison term between 10 and 16 months. He is scheduled to be sentenced on August 23. He stated that he had already planned to retire from the university at the conclusion of the Spring 2018 semester. [14]

The Curtis Culwell Center attack was a failed terrorist attack on an exhibit featuring cartoon images of Muhammad at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland,Texas on May 3,2015,which ended in a shootout with police guarding the event,and the deaths of the two perpetrators. After his arrest,he posted a public statement where he stated "it was always my intention to infiltrate online jihadist spheres so that I could eventually become a journalist,an FBI agent,or both." He also stated that when the FBI informant asked him for information on how to build a bomb "I literally just googled 'how to make a bomb' and sent him some links." Jaelyn Delshaun Young is an American woman,who with fellow Mississippi State University student and her fiancé,an American man named Muhammad Oda "Mo" Dakhlalla,attempted to join ISIS in 2015. The two were students at Mississippi State University in Starkville,Mississippi when they met,and later decided to travel to Syria to join the known terrorist organization,ISIS. Young was apprehended by the FBI and ultimately pleaded guilty to terrorism-related charges. U.S. District Judge Sharion Aycock sentenced Young to 12 years in federal prison on August 11,2016.
Professor Watchlist is a website,run by conservative advocacy organization Turning Point USA,that lists academic staff which Turning Point believes "discriminate against conservative students,promote anti-American values and advance leftist propaganda in the classroom." It was launched in 2016 and had listed about 200 professors by December of that year. The website erroneously claimed that Hunter Biden would "assist in lecturing a course" at Tulane University in the fall semester of 2021.
George Demetrios Papadopoulos is an author and former member of the foreign policy advisory panel to Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign. On October 5,2017,Papadopoulos pleaded guilty to a felony charge of making false statements to FBI agents about the timing and the possible significance of his contacts in 2016 relating to U.S.–Russia relations and the Trump presidential campaign. In 2018,he served twelve days in federal prison,then was placed on a 12-month supervised release. During his supervised release from prison,he participated in the filming of a still-unreleased docuseries. In March 2019,Papadopoulos released his book,Deep State Target:How I Got Caught in the Crosshairs of the Plot to Bring Down President Trump. He was pardoned by Trump in December 2020.

She earned her bachelor's degree in Oklahoma and a master's degree in history from Clemson University in 2008. In 2011,she joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a contract linguist with the help of her thesis supervisor,Alan Grubb. Greene was assigned to communicate with Denis Cuspert,an ISIL member,during a covert FBI investigation in 2014. However,she secretly used an additional Skype account to communicate with Cuspert and traveled to ISIL-occupied Syria,where they married and she became a ISIL bride.
Daniel Michael Deocampo is an American geologist,geochemist,and academic administrator. He was an associate dean and professor of geosciences at Georgia State University. Deocampo pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography on November 3,2021.
