Dr. Julius Makau Malombe,EGH is a Kenyan politician and the first and current elected Governor of Kitui County. He is elected on a Wiper Democratic Movement-Kenya (WDM-K) which he won the 2013 elections garnering 163,904 votes. [1] He defended his seat on Wiper ticket in the 2017 general election but lost to Charity Ngilu coming third behind former senator David Musila however he recaptured the seat and won after the 9 August 2022 gubernatorial elections with 198,004 votes defeating former senator David Musila who had 114,606 votes and Jonathan [2] with 10,639 votes. As the pioneer governor of Kitui he is credited with much of the development gains made in the region. On 12 December 2022 Dr. Malombe was awarded the Elder of The Golden Heart by President William Ruto.
EDUCATION
Dr. Malombe began his studies at Matinyani Primary School before moving on to Matinyani Secondary School to complete his O' Levels. He went on to enroll at the University of Nairobi to study a bachelor's in economics. He completed his masters and PhD from Birmingham University,UK.
POLITICAL HISTORY
Hon.Dr.Malombe joined politics in 2012 upon being nominated as the Kitui gubernatorial candidate by the Wiper Democratic Movement Kenya (WDM-K). He successfully campaigned and was duly elected as the first governor of Kitui County after the 4 March Elections by garnering 163,904 votes defeating Julius Kiema Kilonzo of NARC who had 85,723 votes and Philip Nzamba Kitonga of National Labour Party with 24,574 votes.
He was unsuccessfully in defending his seat in the 2017 elections losing to Charity Ngilu.
In 2019 Dr.Malombe was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta as the Chairperson of Kenya Water Towers Agency for a period of 3 years in a gazette notice 3 May 2019.
Hon Dr. Malombe was given a direct nomination by Wiper Democratic Movement Kenya(WDM-K) which was contested in court by Julius Kiema Kilonzo. The court ruled for nominations to be held by Wiper party which Dr. Malombe won and thereafter contested the gubernatorial elections and was duly elected as the 3rd Governor of Kitui after garnering 198,004 votes. The National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) is a political party in Kenya. As an alliance,it was in power from 2002 and 2005 when it collapsed due to disagreements between members over a constitutional referendum.

The party has sat in the government of Kenya once,under the National Rainbow Coalition,from 2003 to 2007,having ended forty years of one party rule. In April 2022,the party joined the Kenya Kwanza coalition for the August 2022 elections,and is headed by Moses Wetangula,the current speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya. The party tends to be more popular among the Luhya people.
Charity Kaluki Ngilu is a Kenyan politician and the second governor elected for Kitui County. She unsuccessfully vied to be President of the Republic of Kenya in 1997. She served as Minister for Health from 2003 until 2007 and Minister of Water and Irrigation from April 2008 to 2013. She also served as Cabinet Secretary for Land,Housing and Urban Development from 2013 until 2015.

The party tends to be more popular among the Kamba people. It is headed by Kalonzo Musyoka,who ran for president in 2007 and served as the vice-president in the Grand Coalition of Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga. He is now a member of the main opposition Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Party.

Joyce Cherono Abonyo was a Kenyan politician who served as the second governor of Bomet County from 2017 until her death on 29 July 2019. She was a Member of Parliament representing Sotik constituency,before she was elected to the gubernatorial seat.
Mwingi South Constituency was a former electoral constituency in Kenya. It is one of the eight constituencies in the Kitui County and is now known as Mwingi Central.
Winfred Nyiva Mwendwa is a Kenyan politician. She was the first Kenyan woman to serve as a cabinet minister.
Kitui Gubernatorial Elections were held in Kitui to elect a Governor and County Assembly on 4 March 2013. Under the new constitution,which was passed in a 2010 referendum,the 2013 general elections were the first in which Governors and members of the County Assemblies for the newly created counties were elected. They will also be the first general elections run by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) which has released the official list of candidates.
Alfred Nganga Mutua is a Kenyan journalist and politician who was the Minister for Tourism and Wildlife. He formerly served as the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs under President William Ruto. Mutua was,together with the entire Cabinet members,dismissed from the cabinet in July,2024 as President William Ruto planned to reorganize his Government. He was one of only 10 of the dismissed members of Cabinet who was reappointed as the Cabinet Secretary (Minister) of Labour and Social Protection. Twelve of the dismissed Cabinet members were not reappointed.

Wavinya Ndeti EGH is a Kenyan politician and a business woman who is serving as the 2nd Governor of Machakos County. She previously served as a member of parliament for the Kathiani Constituency in the 10th Kenyan parliament and an assistant minister in the ministry of youth affairs and sport from 2008 to 2013. She was the first woman to be elected as a member of parliament in Machakos county since independence. She was a CCU candidate in 2013 and WDM-K candidate in 2017 for Machakos Governor.
Nimrod Mbithuka Mbai is a Kenyan politician and the current Member of Parliament for Kitui East Constituency. He was elected on a UDA ticket in the August 8th elections. He won after garnering a total of 14,256 votes against 10,899 votes garnered by NARC's Militonic Mwendwa Kitute. The then incumbent Member of Parliament,Major (Rtd) Mutua Muluvi was fourth with 5,436 votes. He is an ex-police officer and served as security aide to the late Francis Nyenze and later to the current Machakos County Governor Alfred Mutua. Governor Mutua appointed him to his government in 2013 after Mbai resigned from his police service. Mbai caused controversy for his rape remarks against Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu because of the governor's support for poll boycott called by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. He later apologised following public outcry and pressure from women's rights group FIDA Kenya
Edith Vethi Nyenze is a Kamba Kenyan politician who is the incumbent Member of Parliament for Kitui West Constituency. She was elected to succeed her late husband Francis Nyenze as the 7th Member of Parliament for Kitui West Constituency. She belongs to the WDM.
Mutula Kilonzo Jnr. is the current Governor of Makueni County government,Kenya. He is a member and chair of the Wiper Democratic Movement,Kenya and was elected as the second Senator of Makueni County Government on the WDM-K ticket in a by-election in July 2013,after the demise of his father lawyer Mutula Kilonzo and is currently serving as the second Governor for Makueni county,having been elected in the August 2022 elections. He is married to Anita Mutula and they have two children.
