June Bevan (Christened Norma) was born in Parkes on 9 June 1931 to Norman and Lillian Single. They moved to Newcastle in 1935 where June went on to attend Dudley Primary School and then Hunter Girls High School. June's main sporting interests were netball and hockey, playing at 'A' grade level. Subsequently she decided to switch to badminton when a friend was talking to her on the bus, her friend wanted to get some boys together to play badminton. June said, "That's right boys get to play and girls miss out". June was then invited along to play. Enjoying the game so much because it was fast and strenuous, June took up badminton at the age of 17 at a time when the sport was re-organising after the war. June continued to play hockey and netball as they became a means of maintaining her fitness and speed for badminton. Badminton possessed everything that June wanted in a sport and it was accessible 12 months a year rain, hail or shine. 1950 was the beginning of a brilliant sporting career as she was selected in the New South Wales team. On 5 September 1953, June married Keith Bevan (who also played badminton). As a young married couple they could not afford to travel interstate to play badminton in the Australian Carnival plus having a honeymoon. So they combined the two together and went to Tasmania playing badminton in the State team together. In 1953, June was selected to play for Australia against New Zealand for the first time and continued to represent her country until 1961. June's badminton career representing New South Wales spanned three decades from 1951 to 1984 with the exception of 1958, 1966 and 1969. June's first daughter Margaret was born in September 1958. In May 1963, June's second daughter Janine was born and after a great deal of hard training June was able to represent New South Wales in Queensland in August/September that same year. In December 1966 her third daughter Christine was born and in July 1969 June's fourth daughter Kim was born. June has won so many New South Wales State Titles that she has lost count of them, June has also won 12 Australian Titles including the Triple Crown on two occasions. June represented the State for over 30 years from 1951 to 1982 a record which no other badminton player has been able to achieve.
Since injuring her left knee in 1992, she has not been able to play competitive badminton, something that June is not too pleased about. Badminton has been a family affair with her four daughters following in their mother's footsteps as they have all won many State Junior Titles and have all represented the State. In addition to her sporting achievements June is a Life Member of the NSW and Newcastle Badminton Associations, and will be returning to the coaching aspects of badminton with Junior players.
June's husband Keith was an avid supporter of Badminton and very proud that June had been given deserved recognition of her achievements and dedication to the sport, by having a tournament named after her. Sadly, Keith, June's greatest fan, died on 10 November 2009. Since then at least one daughter has attended the June Bevan Trophy with June.
Hunter Jaegers were an Australian netball team that represented Netball New South Wales in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy. Together with Sydney Swifts and Sydney Sandpipers, they were one of three teams to represent NNSW in the competition. Hunter Jaegers made their CBT debut in 2004. They continued to play in the competition until its demise in 2007. In 2008, when the Commonwealth Bank Trophy was replaced by the ANZ Championship, Jaegers and Swifts merged to form New South Wales Swifts.
The Uber Cup, sometimes called the World Team Championships for Women, is a major international badminton competition contested by women's national badminton teams. First held in 1956–1957 and contested at three year intervals, it has been contested every two years since 1984 when its scheduled times and venues were merged with those of Thomas Cup, the world men's team championship. In 2007, the Badminton World Federation decided to have Thomas and Uber Cup finals separated again but the proposal was ultimately abandoned. The Uber Cup is named after a former British women's badminton player, Betty Uber, who in 1950 had the idea of hosting a women's event similar to the men's. She also made the draw for the 1956–1957 inaugural tournament, which took place at Lytham St. Annes in Lancashire, England.

Eleven nations took part competing first within zones to qualify for interzone matches. The final round was held in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, England on 18 March 1957. The United States won the event, defeating Denmark.
Catherine Anne Cox is an Australian netball player. Cox has played regularly for the Australian national team since her first appearance in 1997 and is one of only four players with more than 100 test matches. With Australia she won two World Championships and one Commonwealth Games. On club level she was active for the Australian Institute of Sport and Perth Orioles. She had afterwards her most successful time playing for the Sydney Swifts, winning the Australian championships of 2004, 2006, and 2007. In 2008 she captained the Sydney Swift's successor team NSW Swifts when it won the inaugural Trans-Tasman championship. In 2012 and 2014 she joined West Coast Fever and Melbourne Vixens, respectively.
Mo'onia Frances Gerrard is a former Australian netball player of Tongan descent. Her netball career commenced at a very young age; she would often participate in training sessions of her mother's senior Dee Why Beach Netball Club team. When she was old enough to register in a team, Gerrard commenced playing with Narrabeen Youth Club and was later selected to represent Manly Warringah Netball Association at State Age, State Championships and State League. She was an Australian Institute of Sport scholarship holder. Gerrard is a current member of the Australian national team, and from 2011 is playing for the New South Wales Swifts in the ANZ Championship. She is the sister of Australian rugby union player Mark Gerrard.
Julie Corletto is an Australian international netball player. She played for the Australian Diamonds and NSW Swifts but has now retired. She usually played in the positions of goal defence and wing defence. Corletto is the younger sister of former AFL footballer Ian Prendergast.

She was a member of the Sydney Swifts teams that won premierships in 2004, 2006, 2007. Between 2008 and 2013 she played for New South Wales Swifts in the ANZ Championship. She was a member of the Swifts team that won the 2008 ANZ Championship. She also represented Australia at under-19, under-21 and Fast5 levels.

Field hockey has been played by men in Australia since 1901. By 1907, there were clubs in several states including New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, and Victoria. Women's field hockey was eventually represented by the Australian Institute of Sport, though the amount of support it received was less than the support the men received. The All Australian Women's Hockey Association was established in 1910 to govern the sport in Australia. in 2000, Women's Hockey Australia merged with the Australian Hockey Association to form Hockey Australia. The game has been played by women on the university and school level. Interstate matches were being played by 1909. The level of play on the interstate level is very high. The Australia women's national field hockey team, established in 1914, has placed highly in many competitions.

Renuga Veeran is an Australian badminton player. She has represented both Malaysia and Australia internationally as a badminton player. As part of the Australian Olympic Team, she paired with Leanne Choo and reached the quarter-finals in the women's doubles competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
