Junkyard Lipstick were a five-piece, female metal band from Cape Town, South Africa formed in 2011. Their songs are fast-paced, catchy, bass-heavy, and their lyrics incorporate "a playful sense of humour" with an "odd but interesting amalgamation of gore and a more delicate trace of femininity." [3] In 2016 Junkyard Lipstick disbanded.

Performance highlights

The band played at the 2011 and 2012 Rock The River New Years Festivals. [4] [5]

In April 2012 Junkyard Lipstick travelled to Durban to perform at the Splashy Fen music festival. [6] [7]

In September 2012, Junkyard Lipstick participated in Rolling Stone South Africa's event entitled Rolling Stone Weekend. [8]

At the end of May 2013, Junkyard Lipstick travelled to Gauteng where they played the Emalyth Arts Expo as part of their first ever Gauteng tour. [9] [10]

In March 2014 Junkyard Lipstick played at RAMFest . [11] [12]

In April 2015, Junkyard Lipstick travelled to Gauteng to play Africa's largest ever Heavy Metal concert, Witchfest. [1] [13] [14] [15]

August 2015 marks the band's debut performance on the Metal4Africa Winterfest line-up. [16] [17]

Junkyard Lipstick was chosen as the main support act for the Cape Town leg of Aborted's South African Tour August 2015 . [18] [19] This would be the first time an all-female act supports an international metal band on a South African stage.

Established in 1990, Splashy Fen is South Africa's longest-running music festival, which every Easter attracts thousands of people to a farm near Underberg, KwaZulu-Natal for a unique outdoor music experience. Also present are arts and crafts stalls, food and drink outlets, crèche and children's entertainment programme, as well as various camping and accommodation options. The most recent festival took place from the 28th March-1st April 2024.

Mind Assault is a heavy metal band formed in 2003, that first emerged in October 2004 under the name Mind Assault. Their members are based in Somerset West near Cape Town, South Africa. They were the first extreme metal band to use their native language Afrikaans in their music, maintaining a balanced use of Afrikaans and English in their music. This language usage results from a re-emerging consciousness among young Afrikaans people through alternative sub-cultures, reflected by bands such as Fokofpolisiekar and Kobus!, which results from a closer observation of their own cultural heritage.

Crow Black Sky is a South African black metal band from Cape Town which has been active since 2009. The band has released two albums, with later material described by the band as "cosmic black metal". Multiple lineup changes occurred between the release of the debut album, Pantheion (2010), and 2012. On 17 January 2018, they released their second album, Sidereal Light: Volume One. The band releases its material independently.

Knotfest is a music festival created in 2012 by American nu metal band Slipknot and their longtime manager and CEO of 5B Artist Management, Cory Brennan. The event has been held both as a touring festival and a destination festival in several countries including the United States, Canada, Japan, Germany, Mexico, Australia, Colombia, France and Chile. Aside from Slipknot, Knotfest has featured a diverse alumni of past performers including Deftones, Marilyn Manson, Lamb of God, Bring Me the Horizon, Prong, Deadly Apples, In This Moment, Amen, Butcher Babies and Prayers.

The Gauteng Province's total GDP for 2022 was R2.2 trillion, making the province the single largest contributor to South Africa's GDP with a contribution of 33%, despite having only 1.4% of South Africa's land area. e-toll consisted of the electronic toll collection (ETC) processes employed by South Africa's roads agency SANRAL on selected toll roads or toll lanes in the Gauteng province, subject to the Sanral Act of 1998. SANRAL derives its income both from toll income and the national fiscus, while initial capital outlay for large projects are funded by open market bond issues. In total SANRAL manages 13,000 km of non-toll roads in South Africa, besides the majority of its toll roads, including 187 km of Gauteng's freeways which were subject to e-toll.

Man As Machine is an alternative rock band from Johannesburg, South Africa founded in 2008. Their debut album Nothing But A Thing was released in 2011 and their follow-up album Patterns was released in 2015. The band currently consists of bassist Xavier Knox, drummer KJ Forde, guitarist Norden Hartman, and singer Rob Visser.
