Juwita Suwito is a Malaysian singer, songwriter and vocal arranger. [2] She is also the younger sister of Aubrey Suwito.

Life and career

Early life

Juwita Suwito was born in Terendak Camp, Malacca, to a Chinese Indonesian father who served as a Methodist pastor and a Singaporean mother who was a church organist. [1] [2] [note 1] She has an older brother named Aubrey Suwito, who is a pianist, keyboardist, songwriter, arranger and producer. She mainly spent her early years either in Tranquerah or Klebang Besar. She would float paper boats after every downpour in a field [note 2] close to her Tranquerah home. She later learnt to play a piano through her mother. Her family migrated to Kuala Lumpur before she turned 10 where she received education from Bukit Bintang Girls' School in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur. [2] [3]

Career beginnings and coaching

Juwita began pursuing her career in her late teens as a backing vocalist for leading Malaysian artistes at gigs, mega concerts and prominent award shows. [4] She soon adapted to it and was frequently called upon for song recordings for East Asian publishing houses. She had her breakthrough when some of these recordings were regionally released and caught the attention of various curious listeners. “Breathe Again” was published by Warner Music Taiwan in the original soundtrack for ‘The Outsiders’ Taiwanese drama series. [4] In July 2003, Suwito performed a song she wrote according to the theme ‘Leading Change' while representing Malaysia at the YWCA World Council & International Women’s Summit in Brisbane. In 2004, Suwito started coaching the finalists of the inaugural 'Malaysian Idol'. [4] In recent years (as of 2008), she started guest coaching on reality shows, namely 'One in a Million' and 'Mentor'. She was also enlisted on the LG MyStarz mentoring team consisting of Malaysia's top musicians. [4]

As of 2007, she has a full-time job as a YWCA Malaysia National General Secretary. [1]

Style

Juwita is known for touring around Malaysia, where she gets her song inspirations from listening to the local's stories. From there, she would like to present Malaysian culture through songwriting. [5]

Work

She has produced a few albums and soundtracks, including "Breathe Again" featured in The Outsiders, a Taiwanese TV show. [6]

In 2007, she sang both the English and Malay version of Visit Malaysia Year theme song, named One Golden Celebration. [1]

Live performances

She performed together with her brother during the Malaysian Grand Prix Concert, featuring David Foster. [7]

This show is a contest to determine the best young singer in Malaysia, with the winner receiving a major record deal, although some runners-up have achieved enough fame to ink record deals of their own. Like any other Idol show, the winner is decided by public votes. The Malaysian Idol series has gained a following in Malaysia from people of all ages partly due to their interest in American Idol which had been introduced a few years prior. Malaysian Idol has been broadcast to Malaysian viewers via terrestrial television, 8TV and TV3.

The main live tracks were all taken from her 2015 unplugged concert at Istana Budaya on 7 April 2015. The CD, digital download and LP record versions of the album however come with three new bonus songs, "Menatap dalam Mimpi", "Engkau" ("You") and "Mikraj Cinta". All were recorded specifically to accompany the three audio releases.

<i>Shila Amzah</i> (album) 2013 studio album by Shila Amzah

Shila Amzah is the fifth studio album by Malaysian singer-songwriter Shila Amzah. It was released on December 10, 2013, through Shila Amzah Entertainment Berhad and distributed by Warner Music Malaysia. Shila began preparing for the album after winning Asian Wave, and during a significant amount of media scrutiny. Over the course of the short songwriting period, she primarily collaborated with Malaysia's most popular producer Helen Yap and Aubrey Suwito.

"Menatap dalam Mimpi" is a single by Malaysian artist, Siti Nurhaliza. It is the second bonus track from her live album, Unplugged to serve as a single after "Mikraj Cinta" in 2015. Music for the song is written by Aubrey Suwito while its lyrics are provided by Rozi Sang Dewi. A tribute to her late father, Tarudin Ismail, thematically the lyrics for "Menatap dalam Mimpi" revolves around her longing feelings for him. On 2 November 2016, its final official music video was uploaded to Siti Nurhaliza's official Vevo account after its first music video was retracted in less than 12 hours it was published in August.
