Jyoti Singh (born 7 January 1995) is an Indian politician and wife of Bhojpuri actor, singer and BJP politician Pawan Singh. Her public persona has emerged largely via media coverage of her personal life, legal disputes, and her entry into politics.
Jyoti Singh was born on 7 January 1995 to Shri Om Prakash Singh in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh in a Hindu Rajput family. She completed her intermediate from Uttar Pradesh State Board in Ballia. She comes from a wealthy family and was subsequently married to Bhojpuri actor and singer Pawan Singh in 2018. Later they filed for divorce in 2021, which is still pending with judiciary. [1] [2]
Jyoti Singh married Pawan Singh in 2018, which was arranged by family and relatives. This marriage was as his second wife: his first wife, Neelam Devi, died by suicide shortly after their marriage in 2015. In April 2022, Jyoti filed a maintenance lawsuit in a family court in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, seeking a monthly amount, citing alleged mistreatment. The marriage has been under public scrutiny due to highly publicised disputes. Jyoti has accused Pawan of emotional and physical harassment, including allegations of being given abortion pills without her consent.
Pawan filed for divorce from Jyoti in 2022 in a court in Arrah, Bihar. Jyoti reportedly demanded a substantial alimony in the range of ₹30 crore, according to media reports. [3]
In 2025, Jyoti claimed that Pawan had not responded to her efforts to communicate, stating she had been trying to reach him for months about “family and political matters”. [4] [5]
Jyoti Singh declared her intention to contest the 2025 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections as an independent candidate from the Karakat Assembly constituency in Rohtas district. [6]
Her decision to enter politics has been viewed in the context of her personal disputes and the media narrative surrounding them.
