KCDC, also known as KCDC Skateshop, is a skateshop in the Williamsburg neighbourhood of Brooklyn, New York City.

History

Opening in 2001, KCDC was first located at North 10th Street. [1] The first location of KCDC catered to the NYC skate community by providing access to ramps in addition to the retail skateshop. [2] [3] [4] Founded by Amy Ellington, KCDC makes an effort to support Women and LGBTQ+ skateboarders. [2] Throughout its history, KCDC's location remained in Williamsburg despite rising rents. [2] [5]

KCDC is recognized for hosting community skate events, including art shows, music events, meet-and-greets, and a Valentine's Day skate night. [6] [1] Additionally, KCDC produces their own skate videos featuring local skateboarders. [2]

In 2022, KCDC released a hightop Nike SB Dunk in a pink and black colorway. [2] [7] [8]

Leo Baker is a goofy-footed American professional skateboarder from Covina, California, now based in New York City. Baker is transgender and non-binary, and uses he/him and they/them pronouns.

Todd Bratrud is an illustrator and artist born in 1975 in Crookston, Minnesota, on the same day as the wreck of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald. He is the owner of Send Help skateboards, previously known as The High Five skateboards. He is currently living in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He lived in Minneapolis, Minnesota until he moved to Santa Cruz, California in 1999 to become the art director of Consolidated Skateboards. He has created hundreds of graphics for skateboards, stickers, advertisements and apparel for companies like Consolidated Skateboards, Flip Skateboards, Birdhouse Skateboards, Enjoi Skateboards, Black Label Skateboards, Creature Skateboards, Real Skateboards and Volcom. He is also an illustrator and blogger for The Skateboard Mag. Examples of his skateboard graphics can be found in the book Disposable, published by Ginkgo Press.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Skateboarding in China</span>

Skateboarding arrived in China in April 1986 when an American skateboarder arrived in China to study Chinese at the Beijing Language Institute. He says, "When I arrived in China, there wasn't even a word in Chinese for skateboard. People were really interested in learning to ride, and in a few years Chinese skaters started appearing in almost every city I travelled to". Domestic skate companies and retailers began to appear at around the turn of the century, bringing the average price for a skateboard of ordinary quality down from an expensive 1000 yuan to around 280 yuan as of 2009. Skateboarding has been slow to develop in China because of the lack of a strong preexisting street culture and of skating infrastructure; nevertheless, it's estimated that as of 2009 there are 40,000 to 50,000 skateboarders in China.

Anthony Joseph Shetler is a professional skateboarder who, as of July 2019, is pro for World Industries and is the owner of All I Need Skateboards.

Grant Taylor is an American professional skateboarder. He is the son of former professional skateboarder Thomas Taylor and won Thrasher Magazine's Skater of The Year in 2011. Grant's style of skateboarding is known to be fast and powerful. He is recognized for his unique versatile skateboarding.

Nike Dunk is a line of shoes released by Nike in 1985. Originally released as a basketball shoe, the popularity of the shoe among the skating community also led to the creation of a variant used for skateboarding. The shoe is offered in low-, mid- and high-top styles.

Trevor Colden is a professional skateboarder. He grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia and later moved to Los Angeles, California when he was sixteen. He has won high ranking contest "Tampa Am" in 2011 and was one of three skateboarders to qualify for the Street League Nike SB World Tour. He currently rides for FTP Boards, Nike SB, Mountain Dew, Thunder Trucks, Mob Grip, Skullcandy, Spitfire, and Active RideShop.

Chaz Ortiz is an American professional skateboarder. As of 2017, he is ranked the 23rd skateboarder globally and the 13th in street skating. In 2012, he gained recognition as the youngest person to place first in the Dew Tour Championship.

A skateshop is a type of store store that sells skateboard parts and skateboarding apparel. When financially possible, skate shops sponsor local riders and promote skateboarding locally through skate videos and demonstrations, referred to as "demos".
