Kalamata Metropolitan Stadium is a sports arena in Kalamata, Messenia, Greece.
The stadium was completed in 1976, and currently has a seating capacity of 4,496. [1]
The stadium is the home field for Kalamata FC; also, the venue hosts the Papaflessia International Athletics Meeting and the annual Easter festival Saitopolemos. [1]

Kalamata is the second most populous city of the Peloponnese peninsula in southern Greece after Patras, and the largest city of the homonymous administrative region. As the capital and chief port of the Messenia regional unit, it lies along the Nedon River at the head of the Messenian Gulf.

It was part of the ATP Tour 250 series of the ATP Tour and was a Premier Tournament on the WTA Tour. It was held annually at the Olympic Stadium in Moscow, Russia from 1990 to 2018. In 2019, the Olympic Stadium underwent a reconstruction lasting two years. The 2019 edition of the tournament was held at the Ice Palace Krylatskoye. In 2021, the Kremlin Cup was played at the Irina Viner-Usmanova Gymnastics Palace and the Luzhniki Palace of Sports.
The Messenian Gulf is a sea that is part of the Ionian Sea. The gulf is circumscribed by the southern coasts of Messenia and the southwestern coast of the Mani peninsula in Laconia. Its bounds are Venetiko Island to the west and Cape Tainaron to the southeast. The western shores are mostly low-lying, fertile and well-developed, while the eastern shore is dominated by the southern foothills of the Taygetos and comparatively rocky and inaccessible, with few settlements.

The Kalamata olive is a large, dark purple olive with a smooth, meaty texture, named after the city of Kalamata in the southern Peloponnese, Greece. Often used as table olives, they are usually preserved in wine vinegar or olive oil. Typically the term "Kalamata" legally refers to a region of Greece where these olives are grown, but a few countries use the name for such olives grown anywhere, even outside of Greece. Within the EU, the name is protected with PDO status, which means that the name can only be used for olives from the region around Kalamata. Olives of the same variety grown elsewhere are marketed as Kalamon olives in the EU and, sometimes, elsewhere.
Papaflessia is an annual international track and field meeting that is held in Kalamata, Greece. The meeting falls within the European Athletic Association's calendar of meeting. The event caters to both men and women and athletic events held at the meeting include sprints, high jump, long jump, triple jump and javelin.

Greek National Road 39 is a national highway of Greece. It connects Tripoli with Gytheio via Sparti. It is connected with the Greek National Road 7 in Tripoli, with the Moreas Motorway south of Tripoli, with the Greek National Road 82 in Sparti, and with the Greek National Road 86 in Krokees. Until 2016, the EO39 coincided with the European route E961 for most of its length, now it is mainly designated on the A71.
The Technological Educational Institute of Peloponnese was one of the 15 Technological Educational Institutes in Greece. Its main campus and administrative centre was located in Kalamata and one department was located in Sparta.

It connects the cities of Corinth and Kalamata, via Nemea, Argos, Tripoli and Megalopoli. It has been succeeded in importance by the Moreas Motorway (Corinth–Kalamata), which is numbered A7.
The 2011–12 Greek Football Cup was the 70th edition of the Greek Football Cup. A total of 57 clubs, ten less than in the last edition, were accepted to enter. The competition commenced on 9 November 2011 with the first round and concluded in April 2012 with the final between Olympiacos and Atromitos, with Olympiacos winning 2–1 after extra time. The delay of the start of the tournament was due to judicial decisions after the Koriopolis scandal.
The Liberation of Kalamata took place on 23 March (O.S.) 1821 when Greek irregular revolutionary forces took control of the city after the surrender of the Ottoman garrison, without fighting. It was one of the first events of the Greek War of Independence. Kalamata became the first major town to be liberated.

The 1986 Kalamata earthquake struck the southern Peloponnese Region of Greece on September 13 at 20:24 local time. The 12.5 km (7.8 mi) deep moment magnitude (Mw ) 5.9 earthquake had an epicenter near the coastal city of Kalamata and was assigned X (Extreme) on the Mercalli intensity scale. The earthquake was the result of normal faulting along a northwest-dipping fault and produced surface ruptures. Extensive damage was reported in Kalamata and Elaiochori. At least 20 people died and 330 were injured. Survivors sought refuge at campsites and reconstruction work lasted five years.
The 2022–23 Greek Football Cup, also named Novibet Greek Cup for sponsorship reasons, was the 81st edition of the Greek Football Cup. The winner of the Cup will qualify for the next season's Europa League third qualifying round.
