Kalidasa Academy is a cultural institution established by the Government of Madhya Pradesh to act as a multi-disciplinary institution, which would project the totality of classical tradition with Kalidasa as its centre. [1] It was set up in 1978 and is located in Ujjain. [2]

<i>Shakuntala</i> (play) Sanskrit play written by Kālidāsa

Abhijnanashakuntalam, also known as Shakuntala, The Recognition of Shakuntala, The Sign of Shakuntala, and many other variants, is a Sanskrit play by the ancient Indian poet Kālidāsa, dramatizing the story of Śakuntalā told in the epic Mahābhārata and regarded as best of Kālidāsa's works. Its exact date is uncertain, but Kālidāsa is often placed in the 4th century CE.

Mahakavi Kalidasa is 1955 Indian Kannada film directed by K. R. Seetharama Sastry, in his debut direction. The movie is based on the legends of the poet Kālidāsa. It stars Honnappa Bhagavatar as Kālidāsa, a Sanskrit poet who lived during the 4th and 5th Century CE. It tells the story about how he, an aristocratic young man cursed by his guru with ignorance, goes on to become a great poet. B. Raghavendra Rao, Narasimharaju and B. Saroja Devi, in her first film, feature in supporting roles.

Guru Mani Madhava Chakyar (15 February 1899 – 14 January 1990) was a celebrated master performance artist and Sanskrit scholar from Kerala, India, considered to be the greatest Chakyar Koothu and Koodiyattam artist and authority of modern times. He was considered as the authority of Abhinaya and Nātyaśāstra.

Satya Vrat Shastri was an Indian Sanskrit scholar, writer, grammarian and poet. He wrote three Mahakavyas, three Khandakavyas, one Prabandhakavyas and one Patrakavya and five works in critical writing in Sanskrit. His important works are Ramakirtimahakavyam, Brahattaram Bharatam, Sribodhisattvacharitam, Vaidika Vyakarana, Sarmanyadesah Sutram Vibhati, and "Discovery of Sanskrit Treasures" in seven volumes.

<i>Kalidas</i> (film) 1931 film by H. M. Reddy

Kalidas is a 1931 Indian Tamil- and Telugu-language biographical film directed by H. M. Reddy and produced by Ardeshir Irani. It is notable for being the first sound film in the Tamil and Telugu languages, and the first sound film to be made in a language from South India. It was based on the life of the Sanskrit poet Kalidasa; it featured P. G. Venkatesan in the title role and T. P. Rajalakshmi as the female lead, with L. V. Prasad, Thevaram Rajambal, T. Susheela Devi, J. Sushila, and M. S. Santhanalakshmi in supporting roles.

V. Venkatachalam

Vishwanathan Venkatachalam was an eminent Sanskrit scholar. He served as the vice-chancellor of Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi, India for two terms. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1989 by the Government of India for his valuable contribution to the field of Sanskrit research and education.

Uli Sandam is among the oldest works in Malayalam language. It is a sandesa kavyam, a message written in poetry, on the lines of the famous Meghadūta of Kalidasa. In the case of this work, it is a message written by a lover to his lady-love staying at a far-off place. The message is therefore written as if it is sent through a messenger. The work was written in the 14th century AD, when transport and communications were very limited in Kerala. The messenger in the poem is, therefore, a carrier pigeon. Apart from the message proper, the poem gives detailed instructions to the messenger pigeon, including the route to be taken and the landmarks in route.

Mithila Prasad Tripathi is a Sanskrit poet who won the Sahitya Akademi Award for Sanskrit for 2010 for his poetry. The Sahitya Akademi is India's national academy of letters that awards the Jnanpith Award, India's highest literary award, and the Sahitya Akademi Award for each language is considered the second-highest literary award in India and the highest award for that language. He also won Rashtrapati Award in 2017, for his work in Sanskrit Language.

<i>Un Samayal Arayil</i> 2014 film directed by Prakash Raj

Un Samayal Arayil in Tamil, Oggarane in Kannada (transl. Tempering) and Ulavacharu Biryani in Telugu, is a 2014 Indian romantic comedy film directed by Prakash Raj. A remake of Aashiq Abu's 2011 Malayalam film Salt N' Pepper, the film is simultaneously shot in three languages. It starts Prakash Raj alongside Sneha, Urvashi, Tejus and Samyukta Hornad. The film features the original score and soundtrack by Ilaiyaraja. The regular shoot commenced from 26 September at Mysore.

Kalidasa Kalakendram Indian theatrical group

Kalidasa Kalakendram is a professional drama theatrical group founded by O. Madhavan, a well-known Malayalam theatre director, in Kollam, Kerala. The group was founded on 25 January 1963 as a society under the parent organisation, Paul Foundation.
