Mannar Island, formerly spelt Manar Island, which lies off the north-western coast of Sri Lanka, is part of Mannar District, Sri Lanka. It is linked to the main island of Sri Lanka by a causeway and the Mannar Bridge, which carries the A14 highway, and a railway bridge. It is divided into 12 wards internally, each corresponding a major settlement. The island was named as Middleburg by the Dutch colonial rulers during their occupation of then Ceylon. Most of the residents of the Island are Tamils with majority being Hindus and a minority of Christians. There are a lot of Hindu temples in this region along with some Christian churches. Nearly 15 Tamil schools exist there for the benefits of the place. Government hospitals and some private clinics are also available. Pungudutivu is connected by road with mainland Jaffna. SLTB and private buses travel through the island along the Jaffna - Kurikattuvan route. People take a boat from Kurikattuvan to reach Nainativu, which is celebrated for its religious popularity.

Mabola or Mabole is a town and Urban Council in Gampaha District in the Western Province of Sri Lanka. With Wattala it forms Wattala–Mabola urban council. It is located in Negombo road and it is the route for travel to Bandaranaike International Airport. The newly constructed, Sri Lanka's second E Class highway, Colombo - Katunayake Expressway E03 crosses to the seaside through Mabola.

Maradankulama or Maradankulam is a village situated within the North Western Province of Sri Lanka. It is one of the oldest settlements within the geographic region that formed the medieval divisions of the country called Demala Pattuva. Most villagers speak Sinhala language but unlike the majority of Sinhala language speakers who are Buddhists, they are Saivite Hindus like the minority Sri Lankan Tamils. The village hosts an important festival dedicated to Ayyanar who is a popular village guardian deity.
