Sufia Khatun (known as Kangalini Sufia; born 01 January 1961) [1] is a Bangladeshi folk singer. [2] Her real name is "Anita Halder". [1] She performed as a playback singer for the films Darodi Shatru, Agun and Raj Shinghashon. [1]
Sufia was born in 1948/49 in greater Faridpur (now Rajbari) to Khokon Halder and Tulu Halder. [1] At the age of 14/15, she began singing at village functions. Around 1974, she converted to Islam and took on the name Sufia Khatun. Artist Mustafa Monwar christened her "Kangalini Sufia". [3]
Sufia mostly performs with a five-member troupe that includes Baul Jahangir, Baul Mander Fakir, Pushpo (Sufia's daughter), Chumki Kangalini (Sufia's granddaughter) and Bilkis Banu. [3] She collaborated with other musicians including Kuddus Boyati, Abdur Rahman Boyati and Anusheh Anadil. [4] [5] [6]
In October 2016, Sufia released her first CD album titled Ma. [6]
Sufia first married Sudhir Halder. [1] Her second husband, Baul Sekom, is a Dotara player and lives in London where he works. [1] On the 8th December, 2018, She was admitted with severe illness to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar. After her medical examinations Doctor said, She has several problems including irregularities of blood circulation in her brain. She also has some problems in her heart. [9] She is now living in Jamsing, Savar.

On 17 August 2005, around 500 bomb explosions occurred at 300 locations in 63 out of the 64 districts of Bangladesh. The bombs exploded within a half-hour period starting from 11:30 am. A terrorist organization, Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) claimed responsibility for the bombings. The group, led by Shaykh Abdur Rahman and Siddiqur Rahman. Another terrorist group, named Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami, was associated with JMB in executing the co-ordinated attack. Following the bombings, both groups were banned by the BNP Government of Bangladesh.
A. S. M. Abdur Rab is a Bangladeshi politician. He is the founder secretary general of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal. In 1985, Rab and his followers left the party and formed a new party Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD, known as JSD (Rab). He served as the Jatiya Sangsad Member from Lakshmipur-4 and the Minister of Shipping and later the Minister of Fisheries and Livestock during 1996-2001 of the first Sheikh Hasina Cabinet.
Anusheh Anadil is a Bangladeshi musician, artist, cultural activist, and social entrepreneur. The band 'Bangla' was the first female lead band from Bangladesh that became iconically popular in both Bangladesh and West Bengal (India), for their first album Kingkortobbobimuro (2002). Their rendition of spiritual folk songs, along with their own original songs, became a revolution for bringing the sounds of the village bard into popular culture. They helped popularize the philosophy of Fakir Lalon Shai, as a breath of fresh air, to the urban youth. Bangla's second album Prottutponnomotitto (2005) is a tribute to Fakir Lalon Shai. The album questions religious extremism and corrupt politics by using songs of the insightful mystic. The band 'Bangla' inspired many young musicians from both sides of Bengal to rediscover their roots.
Momtaz Begum is a Bangladeshi folk singer. She was Jatiya Sangsad member representing the Manikganj-2 constituency since 2014 and Reserved Women's Seat-21 during 2009–2013. Referred to as "The Music Queen," she has recorded around 700 albums. Some of her notable albums include Return Ticket, Ashol Boithoki, Murshider Talim, and Ronger Bazar.
Nilufar Yasmin was a Bangladeshi singer of Nazrul Sangeet, Rajanikanta Geeti, Dwijendra Geeti and Atul Prasdi genre. She was the fourth of five Yasmin sisters of Bangladesh music. Her siblings are Farida Yasmin, Fauzia Yasmin, Nazma Yasmin, and Sabina Yasmin. She was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2004 by the Government of Bangladesh. She won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Female Playback Singer for her performance in the film Shuvoda (1986).

Murder of Nusrat Jahan Rafi refers to the murder of a 19–year-old Bangladeshi female student who was murdered after reporting her sexual assault by her Madrasa principal to authorities. She was from Feni, Bangladesh. She suffered burns covering over 80% of her body. She died 4 days after her assault on 10 April 2019 at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital's burn unit. She recorded a statement identifying some of her attackers while in transit to the hospital.
