Kapila Chandrasena

Kapila Chandrasena was the CEO of SriLankan Airlines until March 9, 2015,. [1] Prior to this role, he served as the CEO of Mihin Lanka [2] and Mobitel. [3] He also served as the chief marketing officer of Sri Lanka Telecom. [4] He studied at the Royal College, Colombo, and holds a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Chicago and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Melbourne. He and his wife are alleged to have been involved in a $2m bribe in purchasing aircraft for Sri Lankan Airlines, and subsequent money laundering by transfer to an Australian bank. [5] In Feb 2020, a warrant was issued by the Sri Lankan Law Enforcement Authority for the arrest of him and his wife, about this deal. He was subsequently released on bail.

The allegations have been proved in an Approved Judgement delivered on 31st Jan 2020 by the Crown Court of Southwark, in the case between Director of the Serious Fraud Office  Vs Airbus SE. The bribe of $2m has been listed as Count 2: Sri Lanka. [6] [7]

The Bandaranaike International Airport attack was a suicide raid Black Tigers of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) on 24 July 2001 on the Sri Lanka Air Force base SLAF Katunayake and the adjoining Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake, Sri Lanka. The attack was one of the boldest the LTTE mounted during its war with the Sri Lankan government, and had a profound impact on the country's military, economy, and airline industry.

Mihin Lanka was a low-fare leisure airline based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It was owned by the Sri Lankan government. The airline operated scheduled flights from its hub at Bandaranaike International Airport to a number of cities in the Indian subcontinent, the Arab states of the Persian Gulf, Southeast Asia, and Eastern Africa. It code-shared with its partner SriLankan Airlines on several routes, as part of a consolidation exercise between the two airlines.

Widanelage Dharmaratna Ariyasinghe,, popularly as W. D. Ariyasinghe, was a Sri Lankan singer, musician and a composer.

The Colombo Telegraph is a Sri Lankan website run by exiled journalists. It was founded in 2011. It has been blocked in Sri Lanka repeatedly. Uvindu Kurukulasuriya is the editor. He went into exile to UK in 2009 after the murder of Lasantha Wickrematunge and after he was threatened publicly via national radio by the president's media advisor.
