High school student Münevver Karabulut was murdered by Cem Garipoğlu on 3 March 2009. The news of the murder attracted the attention of the people and brought about many responses by the public. The suspect Cem Garipoğlu was surrendered 197 days after the murder. The trial ended on 18 November 2011 with the conviction of Garipoğlu. On 10 October 2014, Garipoğlu committed suicide by hanging himself in the L Type Closed Prison No. 5 in Silivri, where he was serving his sentence.
