Wrocław is a city in southwestern Poland and the largest city and historical capital of the region of Silesia. The 2017 World Games, also known as Wrocław 2017, was the tenth edition of the World Games, held from 20 to 30 July 2017 in Wrocław, Poland. The World Games were organized by the Wrocław Organizing Committee. Wrocław was selected as the host city in January 2012 in Lausanne, over Budapest, Hungary. It was the first time The World Games was organised in Poland.
American football was introduced as a World Games invitational sport at the 2005 World Games in Duisburg. There was also an American Football tournament at the 2017 World Games in Wroclaw. Both times only a competition for the male sides was held with four national teams participating. In 2005 the participating countries were Germany, Australia, Sweden and France while in 2017 the US, Germany, France and Poland participated. The U.S. was represented by college players.
The Australia women's national lacrosse team represents Australia at women's lacrosse. It is governed by Lacrosse Australia and is a full member of the World Lacrosse. They have won the Women's Lacrosse World Cup twice, in 1986 and 2005, and have been runners-up 4 times. They are currently ranked fourth in the world, finishing behind the United States, Canada and England at the 2017 FIL Women's Lacrosse World Cup, which was held in Guildford, Surrey, England, while also finishing third in the 2017 World Games women's lacrosse tournament, held in Wrocław, Poland, behind the United States and Canada, but ahead of Great Britain.
