Karen-Lise Mynster (born 15 January 1952, Aalborg) is a Danish actress who gained popularity in 1978 while performing the role of Eliza in My Fair Lady at Copenhagen's Det Danske Teater. She is however remembered above all for her role as Ulla Jacobsen in the popular Danish television series Matador . In the 1980s, she appeared in leading roles in many stage productions at the Royal Danish Theatre while in the 1990s she performed mainly in films, [1] [2] [3] In 2015, Mynster was honoured with her fifth Reumert Award as best actress of the year. Early life, education and family

Born in Aalborg on 7 May 1952, Karen-Lise Mynster is the daughter of the publicity manager Georg Thorkil Mynster and his wife Elinor Maggi Cecilie née Didriksen, a hairdresser. After matriculating from Birkerød School, she studied drama at Statens Teaterskole (1972–75). She was married to the actor Søren Spanning (1951–2020) with whom she had two children, Jasper (1987) and Rosalina (1990) who also became a successful actress. [3]

Career

On graduating, Mynster spent two years at Aalborg Teater. She first gained attention in 1978 as Eliza in the musical My Fair Lady at Det Danske Teater in Copenhagen. [2] She performed frequently at the Royal Danish Theatre in the 1980s, taking leading roles in productions including Trafford Tanzi , Mutter Courage and Guys and Dolls . [5] She went on to perform in several other Copenhagen theatres, in particular taking the title roles in Ibsen's Hedda Gabler (1994) and Maria Stuart (1998) at Folketeatret. [2] More recently, Mynster has returned to the stage of the Royal Danish theatre taking leading roles in Ødipus og Antigone (2016), Odysseen (2022) and Molière's Dom Juan (2023). [5]

Her most successful television roles have been Ulla Jakobsen in Danmarks Radio's production of Matador (1978–81) and Ella Heiberg in their Kald mig Liva (1992). [2]

Awards

Karen-Lise Mynster has received many notable awards including Henkelprisen (1984), Teaterpokalen (1995), the Reumart Cabaret Show award (2000), the Reumert Award of Honour (2004) and the Reumert Best Actress Award on three occasions (2003, 2007 and 2015),. [4] She also won the Lauritzen Award in 2015 and the Wilhelm Hansen Prize in 2016. [5]

Aalborg Teater is the main theatre in Aalborg, Denmark. Built in 1878, it was subsequently modified by Julius Petersen and was remodeled in 2000. The Reumert Award is an annual Danish awards ceremony to recognize excellence in theatre achievements in Denmark. The award was founded by the Bikuben Foundation in 1998, and has been handed annually since then. There are 16 award categories as well as 10 talent awards. A jury of ten specialists in theatre selects the recipients, who receive a statuette and a prize. As of 2016, the recipients also receive an amount of money. The recipients of the Reumert Award of Honour receive DKK 200,000, the recipients of the Talent Prize receive DKK 35,000 and all other categories-recipients receive DKK 40,000. The Reumert prize is named after the Danish actor Poul Reumert (1883–1968).

Maria Lucia Heiberg Rosenberg is a Danish singer and musical-performer. She became famous when she won a record contract with the label EMI in the TV 2-program Popstars in 2003. Her debut single "Taking Back My Heart" (2004) was no. 1 on hitlisten. The album That's Just Me sold 22.000 copies.

Brigitte Käthe Kolerus (1941–2001) was an Austrian-born Danish actress who performed in films and on television but mainly on stage. After studying at the Odense Teater drama school, she appeared in the musical Man of La Mancha at Ungdommens Teater in 1967 and went on to play Desdemona in Shakespeare's Othello at Det Danske Teater in 1969. She made a name for herself in films by appearing in erotic scenes in Erik Frohn Nielsen's Ekko af et skud in 1970. Kolerus also served as director of Copenhagen's Teatret ved Sorte Hest from 1978 and staged plays and operas at a number of venues.

Anna Guðmundína Guðrún Borg was a Danish-Icelandic actress of stage and screen and autobiographer. The daughter of the Icelandic actress Stefanía Guðmundsdóttir, she grew up in a household where theatre was part of her daily life and began acting at age nine. Borg joined the Royal Danish Theatre in 1928, portraying strong and pure female characters, and also performed in the Dagmar Theatre and the National Theatre of Iceland. She and 11 other people were killed in an aeroplane accident near Oslo in April 1963 and her memoirs were published posthumously the following year. Borg was a recipient of the Ingenio et arti theatre award, the Tagea Brandt Rejselegat, the Läkerol's Culture Award and the Teaterkatten.

Kirsten Eli Lehfeldt is a Danish actress. After studying at the Aarhus Theatre School she appeared on stage in theatre productions and in a variety of reviews as a comic. In 1980, with her slim figure and penetrating singing voice she gained success in Aalborg in the title role of Piaf representing the French singer Edith Piaf. In 1986, Lehfeldt made her film debut as the nurse Henriette in Helle Ryslinge's Flamberede hjerter, earning the prized Bodil Award for best actress. She has recently appeared in the comic Danish TV series Carmen Curlers and Guru. Since her partner Stig Hoffmeyer died in 2022, she has continued performing the role of Gerda in the TV series Minkavlerne, now in its fourth year.

Ulla Henningsen is a Danish actress and singer. She gained popularity in the late 1970s when she appeared in the popular television series Matador. As a stage performer, Henningsen has appeared in classical and modern roles in Copenhagen theatres including Betty Nansen Teatret and the Royal Danish Theatre. As a singer, she performed the leading role in the Danish television series Kald mig Liva.

Else-Marie Juul Hansen was a Danish actress and a particularly successful soprano operetta singer. Initially a dancer, she made her operetta debut in No, No, Nanette at Fønix-Teatret, Frederiksberg, in 1927. From the 1930s to the 1950s, she played leading operetta roles in various Copenhagen theatres, frequently performing with Hans Kurt Jensen. In addition to her many film roles, Hansen is remembered for playing Oda Holm in the popular Danish television series Matador (1978–81).

Elin Reimer-Nielsen was a Danish actress who appeared in over 60 productions on stage, film and television. She is remembered above all for the role of Laura, a kitchen maid, in the popular Danish television series Matador (1978–82). In 1984, she was honoured with the Order of the Dannebrog,
