Karen Ordinans is an American politician and child care advocate.
Ordinans graduated from University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. Ordinans taught in a day care center and was involved with the health of children. She was elected to the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors in 1992 and was selected as the chair of the county board in 1996. In 2002,Ordinans served briefly as the acting Milwaukee County executive when Tom Ament retired. Ordinans was then recalled in 2002 because of a retirement pension controversy.
Ordinans later served as executive director of the Children's Health Alliance of Wisconsin for eighteen years from 2003 until her retirement in 2021. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

The 2011 Wisconsin protests were a series of demonstrations in the state of Wisconsin in the United States beginning in February involving as many as 100,000 protesters opposing the 2011 Wisconsin Act 10,also called the "Wisconsin Budget Repair bill." The protests centered on the Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison,with satellite protests also occurring at other municipalities throughout the state. Demonstrations took place at various college campuses,including the University of Wisconsin–Madison and the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. After the collective bargaining bill was upheld by the Wisconsin Supreme Court on June 14,the number of protesters declined to about 1,000 within a couple days.

The global COVID-19 pandemic struck the U.S. state of Wisconsin in early February 2020. Although Wisconsin has to date experienced 144 deaths per 100,000 residents,significantly fewer than the US national average of 196 deaths,COVID-19 was one of the three leading causes of death in Wisconsin in 2020. On August 25,2021,Wisconsin public health authorities reported 7 day averages of 1,417 new cases and 236 probable cases per day,an increase of greater than 15 fold since late June 2021. This brings the cumulative total of COVID-19 cases in Wisconsin to 651,338. The state's death toll is 7,558,with 30 new deaths over the previous 7 days. As of August 25,2021,12.41% of Wisconsin's residents have been positively diagnosed with COVID-19,the 20th highest per-capita case rate among all US states. January 16's 128 COVID-19 deaths set a new single day record for Wisconsin.
