The series began as a manga first serialized in January 2003. Kamichama Karin was serialized in the Japanese shōjo manga magazine Nakayoshi and published by Kodansha. While the first manga series ended at seven bound volumes, a second titled Kamichama Karin Chu began serialization in the same magazine in July 2006, and as of April 2008, the series ended with seven bound volumes being released.

Her work has been presented in over 100 group exhibitions, including those at the California Museum of Photography, Orlando Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Sezon Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, Japan, among others. A retrospective survey of her art from 1979-2001 was held at the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena, California.
