Karol Aquilina (born 31 October 1979) is a Maltese politician and lawyer currently serving as a Member of Parliament.
Aquilina studied at St Aloysius College and graduated as Doctor of Laws from the University of Malta (2004) with a thesis titled “The Principle of Equality of Arms in Maltese Criminal Law” in which Aquilina provides a detailed examination of the principle of equality of arms as part of the general right to a fair trial as guaranteed by section 39 of the Maltese Constitution and Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
As a student Aquilina was President of the Maltese National Youth Council, KNŻ (2003), [1] [2] President of the Maltese Christian Democrat Students, SDM (2001-2002) and Student Representative on the Senate of the University of Malta (2002-2004).
He has been an active member of the Nationalist Party for a considerable number of years. In 2002 he joined the Nationalist Party Youth Movement, MŻPN and was elected as its Vice President (2002-2009). He is a member of the Nationalist Party's executive committee having been elected first in 2008.He is the Opposition spokesman for good governance, strengthening of democracy, citizenship and reform of the Public Service. [3] In 2020, Aquilina was elected Secretary of the Nationalist Party's parliamentary group after being nominated for the post by party leader Bernard Grech. [4]
Aquilina is a member of the Standing Committee on Standards in Public Life established under the Standards in Public Life Act (Chapter 570 of the Laws of Malta), the Standing Committee on Public Appointments established under the Public Administration Act (Chapter 595 of the Laws of Malta) and of the Standing Committee on Privileges established by the Standing Orders of the House of Representatives.
He was Mayor of Siġġiewi (2012-2015) [5] and President of the Administrative Council of the Nationalist Party (2011-2017).
He is the son of Carmelo (Nenu) Aquilina, the former Mayor of Siġġiewi. [6] Aquilina is married with two children.
The Nationalist Party is one of the two major contemporary political parties in Malta, along with the Labour Party.
Simon Busuttil is the Secretary General of the EPP Group in the European Parliament. Formerly, he was Leader of the Opposition. and Leader of the Nationalist Party in Malta and a Member of the European Parliament for Malta.
Siġġiewi F.C. is a football club from the village of Siġġiewi in Malta. Founded in 1945, it currently plays in the Maltese National Amateur League. Their home kit colours are red and yellow.
Clyde Puli was a Maltese Member of Parliament with the Nationalist Party, holding the position of Spokesperson for Family and Social Solidarity in the Opposition Shadow Cabinet. He is a former Maltese Parliamentary Secretary of Youth and Sport.
Roberta Metsola is a Maltese politician. A member of Malta's Nationalist Party (PN) and the European People's Party (EPP), she has been serving as president of the European Parliament since January 2022.
Alex Perici Calascione is a Maltese politician and lawyer who currently serves as the deputy leader of the Nationalist Party (PN). He previously served as President of the party's Executive Committee until 2020, and as party treasurer until 2017.
Same-sex marriage has been legal in Malta since 1 September 2017 following the passage of legislation in the Parliament on 12 July 2017. The bill was signed into law by President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca on 1 August 2017. On 25 August 2017, the Minister for Equality, Helena Dalli, issued a legal notice to commence the law on 1 September. Malta was the first European microstate, the 21st country in the world and the thirteenth in Europe to allow same-sex couples to marry nationwide. In 2024, Malta was named one of the best marriage destinations for same-sex couples by a British wedding planning website, and polling suggests that a majority of Maltese people support the legal recognition of same-sex marriage.

Edward Zammit Lewis is a Maltese politician within the Labour Party. He has been a member of the Maltese House of Representatives since 2013. Following the general elections held on 9 March 2013, won by the Labour Party, he was appointed to serve as Parliamentary Secretary for Competitiveness and Economic Growth. In April 2014, he was appointed Minister for Tourism, a post he occupied until June 2017. This was followed by his appointment as Minister for European Affairs and Equality in July 2019 till January 2020, when he was appointed Minister for Justice, Governance and Equality.
Ryan Callus is a Maltese politician currently serving as a Nationalist MP in the House of Representatives of Malta. He is currently serving as Spokesperson for Planning and Simplification of Administrative Processes. In March 2012, Callus was elected Deputy Mayor of the Siggiewi Local Council. He was subsequently elected a Member of Parliament in March 2013, after contesting for the first time the sixth district, including Siggiewi, Hal Luqa and Hal Qormi. He obtained 1595 votes in the first count and elected in the 11th count with 3916 votes. An engineer by profession, having graduated at the University of Malta in 2005, Hon. Callus completed a Private Pilot Licence at the Delta Connection Academy in Florida. In 2008, Callus obtained a Master of Science in Project Management from the Lancaster University Management School in the United Kingdom.
Mark Anthony Sammut, is a Maltese politician, a Member of Parliament and President of the Nationalist Party's General Council. He previously served as a local councillor in Gudja between 2006 and 2022.
The 2019 European Parliament election was held in Malta on 25 May 2019. 8 different political parties took part in the election, of which, only 2 won seats in the European Parliament; the Labour Party and the Nationalist Party, with 4 and 2 seats respectively.
Alex Agius Saliba is a Maltese politician, Member of the European Parliament since 2019 for the Labour Party.
Robert Abela is a Maltese lawyer and politician who has served as prime minister of Malta and leader of the Malta Labour Party since 2020. The son of former President George Abela, he was elected to Parliament in 2017. Abela was sworn in as prime minister following the resignation of Joseph Muscat on 13 January 2020.

Edwin Vassallo is a Maltese politician and businessman formerly from the Nationalist Party who served as a member of the Parliament of Malta from 1996 to 2022. He was elected to Parliament in the 1996 Maltese general election, and took office on 5 December 1996, and would serve until 20 February 2022 when Parliament dissolved before the 2022 elections. Vassallo was defeated in 2022 elections. Vassallo served as a Parliamentary Secretary in various capacities under the premierships of Eddie Fenech Adami and Lawrence Gonzi from 1998 until 2008. He also served as the mayor of Mosta from 2015 to 2016. Vassallo was also a member of the Parliamentary Petitions Committee in the Thirteenth Legislature from 2017 until 2022.
Darren Carabott is a Maltese politician serving as a Member of Parliament and as the President of Public Accounts Committee in the Parliament of Malta since March 2022.
Alex Borg is a lawyer and Maltese Member of Parliament. In April 2022, he was appointed shadow minister for Gozo.
Local council elections were held in Malta and Gozo on 8 June 2024, in tandem with the European Parliament elections. This is the second time that all local councils of Malta shall be elected simultaneously in a single election, following the 2015 reform abolishing the previous system of half-council elections.
