Karoline Leth (born May 12, 1964) is a Danish film and TV series producer. [1]

She is the mother of Emma Leth and Aksel Leth, sister of Kristian Leth and daughter of Jørgen Leth. [2]

Career

Karoline Leth served as a teacher and coordinator in the documentary program at the National Film School of Denmark from 1999 to 2004. [3] Subsequently, she assumed the roles of CEO and producer at Zentropa Real, Zentropa's documentary division. [3] Later, she took on the position of director and producer at SF Studios from 2006 to 2013. [3] Between 2013 and 2018, Leth worked as a producer at DR Drama. [3] Following a brief stint at Apple Tree Productions, she returned to Zentropa in 2019 as the Head of Drama Series. [4]

Karoline Leth has produced over 20 short and documentary films, as well as several feature films, one notable example being "The Passion of Marie" (2012), [5] directed by the Oscar-winning Bille August. Additionally, she served as a co-producer for the feature film series "Arn: The Knight Templar" (2007) and "Arn – The Kingdom at Road's End" (2008). In 2010, these films were adapted into a six-episode drama series for DR and TV4. [6]

She produced the first two seasons of the dramady series Rita (2012 - 2013) for TV 2 (Denmark). [7] The series was created by Christian Torpe, and has subsequently been a great success on Netflix. [8] Remakes of it have also been made in several European countries. [9]

Leth developed together with main writer Dunja Gry Jensen the groundbreaking character-driven crime series Norskov (2015). [10] [11]

She was a producer on The Legacy season 1 (the last two episodes) as well as all of seasons 2 and 3 (2014-2017). [12] The series was created by Maya Ilsøe. [13] The Legacy have received the Danish Film Academy's Robert awards for best drama series as well as for best lead and supporting roles in all 3 seasons, [14] and have also received the French FIPA award for best script for the first season [15]

Karoline Leth has produced the mini-drama series Liberty (2018), [16] based on the award-winning and late author Jakob Ejersbo's novel of the same name. [17] The series was created by Asger Leth and directed by Mikael Marcimain and was selected for the Berlinale's Drama Series Days 2018, where it had its world premiere [18] [19] [20] [21]

Leth produced the TV series The Dreamer - Becoming Karen Bixen (2021) [22] for Viaplay Group, [23] which had its world premiere at Canneseries 2022. [24] The series is based on an idea by Karoline Leth and Connie Nielsen. [22]

Karoline Leth has also produced the second season of the crime series DNA (2022) for TV2 Denmark, with Anders W. Berthelsen, Olivia Joof Lewerissa and Charlotte Rampling in the main roles [25]

<i>Rita</i> (TV series) Danish comedy-drama TV series

Rita is a Danish comedy-drama television series created by Christian Torpe for TV 2. It premiered in Denmark on 9 February 2012, and concluded on 20 July 2020, with 40 episodes broadcast over five seasons. Produced by SF Studios, the series was filmed in Rødovre, Zealand, and executive-produced by Keld Reinicke, Karoline Leth, Lars Bjørn Hansen, Birdie Bjerregaard, Christian Rank, Jennifer Green, and Torpe, who also served as head writer. All episodes are available internationally on streaming service Netflix, who partnered with TV 2 to produce the later three seasons, becoming a Netflix Original.

"Familien de Cats" was the third short story written by the Danish writer Karen Blixen under the pen name Osceola, a famous early 19th-century Native American leader. Published in the literary journal Tilskueren in January 1909, it followed "Eneboerne" and "Pløjeren", both published in 1907. It tells the story of a law-abiding family which in each generation has a black sheep who turns out to be its secret blessing. Although Blixen, then Karen Dinesen, wrote hundreds of pages of poems, essays and stories in her youth, it was only when she was 22 that she began to publish some of her short stories in literary journals as Osceola which had also been the name of her father's dog. Like her other early short stories, at the time it failed to attract attention.
