Karrar Jaafar (born 29 July 2006) is an Iraqi professional footballer who plays as a left winger for Iraq Stars League side Al-Minaa.
Jaafar started playing football at the Al-Minaa Academy, and won with Al-Minaa U19 team, the Iraqi Youth Premier League in 2022. [3]
In September 2022, he was promoted to play with the club's first team, and they won the Iraqi Premier Division League and gained promotion to the Iraq Stars League. [4] [5] He scored five goals, scoring against Al-Jolan, Al-Hussein, Afak, Al-Samawa [6] and Al-Shirqat. [7]
In August 2023, his contract with Al-Minaa was renewed [8] and he played in the starting lineup regularly in the Iraqi Stars League, He was Al-Minaa's top scorer that season, scoring 8 goals, scoring against Al-Najaf, [9] Al-Hudood, [10] Al-Zawraa, [11] Karbala, [12] Zakho, [13] Erbil, [14] Naft Maysan, [15] and Dohuk. [16] His rocket goal against Al-Najaf goalkeeper Sarhang Muhsin was considered a strange phenomenon in the league, as it was the goal of the youngest player in the league (16 years old) against the oldest goalkeeper in the league (37 years old). [17] In August 2024, his contract with Al-Minaa was renewed for an additional season. [18]
Jaafar was first picked to represent Iraq in 2022, when the under-17 coach Ahmed Kadhim selected him to be a part of his 23-man squad to play in 2022 Arab Cup U-17. [19] In his first match, he scored the best goal in the tournament against Morocco. [20] [21] He was also part of the squad for the 2023 AFC U-17 Asian Cup qualification. [22]
He was also selected by the coach Emad Mohammed to be part of the 26-man Iraq U20 squad to play in the 2024 WAFF U-19 Championship. [23] He was also named in the 2025 AFC U-20 Asian Cup qualification in Thailand [24] and played the first match against Brunei and scored two goals, provided two assists and caused a penalty in this match. [25] He also scored the winner against Thailand in the final round match, helping his team qualify for the 2025 AFC U-20 Asian Cup in China. [26]
Al-Minaa
The Iraqi Premier Division League is the second-highest division of the Iraqi football league system after the Iraq Stars League. The league is contested by 20 clubs and is operated by the Iraq Football Association (IFA). Each season, the two top-finishing teams in the Premier Division League are automatically promoted to the Stars League, while the third-placed team enters a promotion play-off. The two lowest-finishing teams are relegated to the First Division League.
The 2022–23 season will be Al-Minaa's first season in the Iraqi First Division League since the 1989–90 season and their third overall, having been relegated from the Iraqi Premier League in the 2021–22 season. Al-Minaa are participating in the Iraqi First Division League and the Iraq FA Cup.
The 2022–23 Iraqi First Division League was the 49th season of what is now called the Iraqi Premier Division League, the second tier of the Iraqi football league system, since its establishment in 1974. The number of clubs in the league have varied throughout history for various reasons. The top two teams are promoted to the Iraq Stars League, while the bottom two teams in each group are directly relegated to the Iraqi Second Division League.
Al-Minaa Football Club Academy is the youth system of Al-Minaa Football Club based in Al Maqal, Basra, Iraq. The academy teams play in the Iraqi Youth Premier League, the highest level of youth football in Iraq. The club also competes in the Basra Clubs Youth League. Former player Mohammed Abdul Hussein is the current academy manager.
