Kathleen Addy is a Ghanaian activist with a special interest in governance and human rights. [1] [2] She is the Deputy Commissioner of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), [2] [3] a position she has held since March 2017. [1] She has worked with governmental and non governmental organisations in Ghana to promote the use of communications strategies and interventions in enhancing social impact. [4]

Education

Addy graduated with a bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Ghana. She obtained a master's degree in Communications from the University of Ghana School of Communications Studies. [5]

Career

In 2017, [1] Addy was appointed Deputy Chairperson in Charge of Finance and Administration at the National Commission For Civic Education [6] by President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana. [5] Addy has worked with civil society organisations in Ghana [5] including the Center for Democratic Development (CDD) where she was the Afrobarometer Communications Manager with oversight of seven African Countries. [5] Addy also worked with the Center for Policy Analysis (CEPA) Ghana as a Research and Communications Officer, [7] with a focus on Women's Economic Empowerment and Economic Partnership agreements. [8]

Addy has worked on projects in gender and economic development, [9] gender based and domestic violence, [10] economic development through international trade. [8]

Marian Ewurama Addy was a Ghanaian biochemist and the first Host of the National Science and Maths Quiz. The first Ghanaian woman to attain the rank of full professor of natural science, Addy became a role model for school girls and budding female scientists on the limitless opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. Marian Addy was also a Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, elected in 1999. In the same year, she was awarded the UNESCO Kalinga Prize for the Popularization of Science.

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) is a government agency in Ghana. The commission is responsible for the education of Ghanaians on civic matters. The commission was established by Act 452 of the Parliament of Ghana in 1993.

Charlotte Kesson-Smith Osei is the UN International Elections Commissioner, a Ghanaian lawyer and former chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana from 2015 until she was dismissed in June 2018 on grounds of financial malfeasance. She became the first female to serve in the office of the Electoral Commission of Ghana since the independence of Ghana. She is a professor at the Institute of African Studies, where she has been senior research fellow, head of the Language, Literature, and Drama Section, and associate director of the African Humanities Institute Program at the University of Ghana. She is credited with more than 60 publications in the areas of education policy, higher education, female education, literature, theatre and culture, and serves on numerous committees, boards and commissions locally and internationally. She is the first daughter of writer and cultural activist Efua Sutherland.
