Kathy Oltion is a science fiction novelist known primarily for her Star Trek work, which began with publication in the first two Strange New Worlds anthologies from Pocket Books ("See Spot Run" in the first, "The Quick and the Dead" in the second).
She also co-wrote the novel Star Trek: New Earth: The Flaming Arrow (Book Four of Six) with her husband, Jerry Oltion. Both authors live in Eugene, Oregon.
In addition to writing science fiction, Kathy Oltion also works in a medical laboratory.
She is a member of the Wordos writers' group.

Kathryn Janeway is a fictional character in the Star Trek franchise. As the captain of the Starfleet starship USS Voyager, she was the lead character on the television series Star Trek: Voyager, and briefly appears as a Starfleet admiral in the 2002 film Star Trek: Nemesis. Although other female captains had appeared in previous Star Trek episodes and other media, she is the only one to serve as the central character of a Star Trek TV series. She has also appeared in other media including books and video games. In all of her screen appearances, she was played by actress Kate Mulgrew. Janeway, voiced by Mulgrew, will lead the upcoming animated television series Star Trek: Prodigy.
Natasha "Tasha" Yar is a fictional character that mainly appeared in the first season of the American science fiction television series Star Trek: The Next Generation. Portrayed by Denise Crosby, Yar is chief of security aboard the Starfleet starship USS Enterprise-D and carries the rank of lieutenant. The character's concept was originally based upon the character of Vasquez from the film Aliens (1986). Following further development she became known first as Tanya, and then Tasha. Crosby had originally auditioned for the role of Deanna Troi, while Rosalind Chao became a favorite for Tasha. After Marina Sirtis auditioned for the role, the series' creator Gene Roddenberry decided to switch the roles for the actresses, with Sirtis becoming Troi and Crosby becoming Yar. Chao would later appear on the series in a recurring role as Keiko O'Brien.
Katherine Pulaski is a fictional medical doctor in the American science fiction television series Star Trek: The Next Generation. She served a rotation as the chief medical officer aboard the Federation starship USS Enterprise-D. During her time on the ship, her medical skills saved the lives of both Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Commander William Riker. She inadvertently caused Lt. Commander Data to create a hologram of Professor Moriarty that became self aware after a bet involving his abilities. Pulaski seemed adverse to most new technology and preferred to avoid the transporter, but was forced to rely on it to save her own life from a genetically-modified infection. Before arriving on the Enterprise-D, she previously served on the USS Repulse. For a time in her past, she was romantically involved with William Riker's father, Kyle Riker, with whom she has maintained a friendship.

Portrayed by Majel Barrett, she was the ship's nurse on board the Starfleet starship USS Enterprise. Number One is a fictional character in the science-fiction franchise Star Trek. She first appeared in "The Cage", the initial 1965 pilot episode of the original series, as the unnamed, intellectual second-in-command to Captain Christopher Pike of the starship Enterprise. Number One performs the same role for Pike "as Spock later does for Kirk". The character was first portrayed by Majel Barrett, who went on to play several unrelated roles in the franchise. The pilot was rejected, with most of its characters, including Number One, being omitted from the second pilot and the subsequent series; however, footage from "The Cage" featuring the character was repurposed for inclusion in the two-part story "The Menagerie" in 1966.
