Kaunri Kanya (English: Possessed Girl) is the first 3D Oriya horror film, [1] directed by debutant director Soumya Ranjan Sahu. [2] The film stars several debutant actors. The film was also dubbed into Tamil. It is the first Oriya film to feature an underwater sequence [3] which was shot in Vizag. While most of the shooting happened in Surangi, Ganjam, Odisha, the background score and music were done by South Indian artists Satya and Mithun. Prakruti Mishra gives a special appearance in the film.
The movie is based around the story of a doctor whose wife becomes possessed by an evil spirit. This film explores social stigmas viz. superstition, witchcraft, sorcery and belief of people on casting spells and summoning evil spirits to take girls into possession which leads to murdering of innocent people falsely accused of practicing black magic.
Akash, a doctor by profession, is transferred to a village. After a sequence of unnatural incidents his wife, Riya becomes possessed by an evil spirit. Akash takes help from psychiatrist Doctor Rajiv and tries to discover reasons behind the incidents and his wife's possession. He tries to bring his wife, Riya, out of possession of an evil spirit and that's when he learns about Ravi and Anusuya who belonged to the village and loved each other. The villagers killed Anusuya suspecting her of practicing witchcraft.

'Suramani' PanditRaghunath Panigrahi was an Odissi music Guru, vocalist, composer and music director. He is most known for his renditions of Jayadeva's Gita Govinda and his vocal support for his wife, the Odissi danseuse Sanjukta Panigrahi. Raghunath belonged to a family associated with Odissi music for centuries, members of which were 19th-century Odissi poet-composer Sadhaka Kabi Gourahari Parichha and Gayaka Siromani Apanna Panigrahi who was the royal musician (raja-sangitagya) of Paralakhemundi. He started his musical training from his father Pt Neelamani Panigrahi, who had been collecting traditional Odissi melodies of the Gita Govinda from the Jagannatha Temple of Puri. Later, Raghunath continued learning Odissi music under Pt Narasingha Nandasarma and Pt Biswanatha Das. He was widely known as 'Gitagobinda Panigrahi'.
1920: The Evil Returns is a 2012 Indian Hindi-language horror film written by Vikram Bhatt and directed by Bhushan Patel. The film is a quasi-sequel to a 2008 film 1920, second of the 1920, and stars Aftab Shivdasani, Tia Bajpai, Vidya Malvade and Sharad Kelkar in the lead roles. The movie is third in a series of quasi-sequels released under the Bhatt Banner including Raaz – The Mystery Continues, Murder 2, Jism 2, Jannat 2 and Raaz 3D each of which had nothing to do with their respective prequels, but somehow fell in the same genre following a similar story. The trailer was released on 28 September 2012. The film released on 2 November 2012 to mixed reception and fared better at the opening Box Office weekend as compared to any other releases that week except Skyfall. U Dinesh Kumar, Professor at IIM Bangalore and his team worked with Ami Shah of IntelliAssist, the company that carried out the social media marketing for the film, and assessed Internet activities and campaigns with the case study later published by Harvard Business Publishing.
"Rangabati" is perhaps the most popular recorded song in Sambalpuri Odia. Krishna Patel, a 2023 Padma Shri awardee, is the female singer while the male singer Jitendra Haripal is a 2017 Padma Shri awardee. The song was first recorded for All India Radio in the mid-1970s. A record company from the then Calcutta, Indian Record Manufacturing Company Ltd (INRECO), re-recorded the song in 1976. The disc release was delayed due to a dispute and finally released in 1978–79. The Sambalpuri song was written by Mitrabhanu Gauntia, composed by Prabhudatta Pradhan and sung by Jitendra Haripal and Krishna Patel. In the 1970s and 1980s, the song gained popularity for being commonly played in marriage processions and Murti immersion. The song gained official recognition when it was played in the tableau of Odisha as part of the Republic Day celebrations at New Delhi in 2007. The lead singer Jitendra Haripal was also felicitated by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik later that year. It was also notably used in the celebration of victory during an international cricket match in Barabati Stadium, Cuttack. "Rangabati" was recreated in many other languages of India and has been recreated in Telugu for a movie.
