The 1980 Summer Paralympics, branded as the Olympics for the Disabled, were the sixth Summer Paralympic Games. They were held in Arnhem, Netherlands, from 21 to 30 June 1980.
The 1980 Winter Paralympic Games, the second Winter Paralympics, were held from 1 to 7 February 1980 in Geilo, Norway. Eighteen countries took part with 299 athletes. A demonstration event was held in sledge downhill racing. All classes of athletes with locomotor disabilities were able to participate. Organized by the International Stoke Mandeville Games Federation (ISMGF) and the International Sports Federation of the Disabled (ISOD).

Bethany Charlotte Firth, is a Northern Irish swimmer. Since 2014 she has competed for Great Britain; previously, Firth had represented Ireland. A six time Paralympic gold medalist, she has won gold in her specialist event - the 100 metres backstroke - for both Ireland at the 2012 Summer Paralympics and Great Britain at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Paralympics. These were in addition to the Mixed 4 x 100 metres freestyle relay S14 at the 2020 Games, and 200 metres medley and 200 metres freestyle for Great Britain at the 2016 Games, where she was the nation's most successful Paralympian with three golds and a silver medal. She competes in the S14 classification for athletes with an intellectual impairment.

At the 1980 Summer Paralympics, she won a gold medal in the Slalom 2; a silver medal in the 200m 2; and a bronze medal in the 400m 2. At the 1984 Summer Paralympics, she won a gold medal in the Slalom 2, and silver medals in the Marathon 2 and Pentathlon 2. At the 1988 Summer Paralympics, she won bronze medals in the Marathon 2 and Slalom 3.
Jesse Reynolds is a New Zealand para-swimmer who represented his country at the 2016 Summer Paralympics, the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the 2020 Summer Paralympics. He also competed at the 2013 and 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships.
