Kelsay was an Indian scout serving in the United States Army during the Indian Wars who received the Medal of Honor for bravery.
Kelsay was born in Arizona and after entering the army served as a scout in the Indian Wars. He received the Medal of Honor for "engagements with Apaches". [1]

Native Americans have made up an integral part of U.S. military conflicts since America's beginning. For many Indians it was an important form of interaction with white American culture and their first major encounter with the whites' way of thinking and doing things.
