Kennebec County is a county located in the South-central portion of the U.S. state of Maine. At the 2020 census, the population was 123,642. Its county seat is Augusta, the state capital. The county was established on February 20, 1799, from portions of Cumberland and Lincoln Counties. The name Kennebec comes from the Eastern Abenaki /kínipekʷ/, meaning "large body of still water, large bay."

The Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington Railway is a 2 ft narrow gauge railway. The line was operated as a for-profit company from 1895 until 1933 between the Maine towns of Wiscasset, Albion, and Winslow, but was abandoned in 1936. Today, about three miles (4.8 km) of the track in the town of Alna has been rebuilt and is operated by the non-profit Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington Railway Museum as a heritage railroad offering passenger excursion trains and hauling occasional cargo.

The geographically smaller of the state's two congressional districts, the district covers the southern coastal area of the state. The district consists of all of Cumberland, Knox, Lincoln, Sagadahoc, and York counties and most of Kennebec County. Located within the district are the cities of Portland, Brunswick, and Saco. The district is currently represented by Democrat Chellie Pingree.

MSAD 40 comprises the public education services for students in Union, Friendship, Waldoboro, Warren, and Washington.
Winslow High School is a four-year public high school located in Winslow, Maine, United States. Winslow serves the community of Winslow and is open to high school students from the towns of Vassalboro, Maine, and China, Maine at a tuition cost since there is no public high school in either town. It is a part of Winslow Public Schools.
Messalonskee High School is a public high school located in Oakland, Maine, United States. It serves all high school students in the RSU 18 school unit, which includes Oakland, Sidney, Belgrade, China and Rome. The school was founded in 1969 and currently has slightly more than 700 students enrolled. The campus features an 826-seat performing arts center that was built for the school in 1993. In 2005, the district dedicated the Performing Arts Center to former superintendent J. Duke Albanese. Messalonskee is a member of the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference.

Barbara W. Woodlee is an American college administrator. She was president of Kennebec Valley Community College in Fairfield, Maine, from 1984 to 2012, and since 2013 has served as chief academic officer of the Maine Community College System. She was the first woman president in both the state technical college and community college systems. She was inducted into the Maine Women's Hall of Fame in 2015.

Kennebec Intra-District Schools (KIDS) a.k.a. Regional School Unit 2 is a school district headquartered in Hallowell, Maine. In addition to Hallowell it serves Dresden, Farmingdale and Monmouth.
