Kevin Bachtel is an American college football coach. He is the head football coach for Howard Payne University; a position he has held since 2023. [1] [2] [3] He was the head football coach for Edgewood High School from 2016 to 2020. [4] He also coached for Wills Point High School and Grand Saline High School. [5]

All of HPU's varsity teams compete at the NCAA Division I level. All sports except men's lacrosse compete in the Big South Conference. The Central Oklahoma Bronchos football team represents the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) in college football. The team is a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA), which is in Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Bronchos football program began in 1902 and has since compiled over 600 wins, two national championships, and 27 conference championships. As of 2022, the Bronchos are ranked fifth in NCAA Division II for wins. In 1962, the Bronchos went 11–0 on the season and defeated Lenoir–Rhyne University (NC) 28–13 in the Camellia Bowl to claim its first NAIA national championship. Twenty years later, Central Oklahoma defended its home turf and defeated Colorado Mesa University 14–11 in the NAIA national championship game to take its second title and finish the season with a 10–2 record. Despite its rich history in football, Central Oklahoma has struggled beginning in the late 2000s. The program has not participated in the NCAA Division II playoffs since 2003. The Bronchos have enjoyed nine undefeated home seasons and are 5–1 in playoff games at Wantland Stadium.

The 2022 NCAA Division III football season was the component of the 2022 college football season organized by the NCAA at the Division III level in the United States. The 2023 NCAA Division I FCS football season, part of college football in the United States, was organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) level. The regular season began on August 26 and ended in November. The postseason began in November and ended on January 7, 2024, with the 2024 NCAA Division I Football Championship Game at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas. South Dakota State repeated as champions, defeating Montana, 23–3.

Braxton Harris is an American football coach and former player who is currently the head coach for the Campbell Fighting Camels of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA). He played as a quarterback at Mary Hardin–Baylor and later served as a coach there, at Waco High School, Texas Lutheran, Howard Payne, linebackers coach at Campbell and Houston Christian before receiving the head job at Campbell in 2024.

Chris Kielsmeier is the women's basketball coach for Cleveland State University since 2018. He began his coaching career at Howard Payne University in 1999 as an assistant coach. As their women's basketball coach from 2000 to 2008, his team won the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament thrice. Upon winning the 2008 NCAA Division III women's basketball tournament, the university had their first title in team sports since leaving the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Jason Bachtel is an American college football coach. He is the head football coach for Houston Christian University; a position he has held since 2024. He was the head football coach for Scurry-Rosser High School from 2011 to 2016 and Howard Payne University from 2021 to 2022. He also coached for Galena Park High School, Gatesville High School, North Forney High School, East Texas Baptist, and Argyle High School. He played college football for Howard Payne as a quarterback.

Barry Derickson is an American college football coach. He is the head football coach for Sul Ross State University, a position he has held since 2022. He was the head football coach for Oconto Falls High School from 2016 to 2017. He also coached for Wisconsin–Oshkosh, Angelo State, Bemidji State, Howard Payne, Independence CC, Eastern Kentucky, Wisconsin–Stevens Point, Navarro College, and Valparaiso. He played college football for Wisconsin–Oshkosh as a left tackle.

The 2023 American Southwest Conference football season was the season of college football played by the eight member schools of the American Southwest Conference (ASC) as part of the 2023 NCAA Division III football season. The 2023 Hardin–Simmons Cowboys football team compiled a 9–2 record, won the ASC championship, and made it to the NCAA Division III first round where they lost to Trinity (TX) 20–6.
