Kevin Loh is a classical guitar player from Singapore. He has won several guitar competitions and he has been called a guitar prodigy by Classical Guitar Magazine.

Early life and education

Loh was born in Singapore and began playing guitar when he was five years old under the guidance of his father. In 2010, Loh was discovered on YouTube and was invited to attend the Yehudi Menuhin School in England, where he studied for seven years. In 2017, Loh returned to Singapore, where he was required to serve in the military for two years. Loh then went back to England to study Music at Girton College, University of Cambridge for three years. In 2021, Loh then moved to the United States to study at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee under the tutelage of Cuban-born guitarist René Izquierdo. [1]

Career

Classical Guitar Magazine called him a guitar prodigy and a superb guitarist. [2] In 2010 we won the HSBC Youth Excellence Award for Musical Excellence. [3] He was twelve years old at the time and he won US$200,000 which he planned to use for his studies and competitions. [4]

In 2018 he was awarded the Goh Soon Tioe Centenary Award. It was the first time a guitar player won the award which is given annually to string players in Singapore. The prize also came with a SGD$8000 award. [3]

In 2023 he competed in the Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition (ICAC), and was awarded second place. [5]

Tan Wee Kiong is a Malaysian badminton player in the doubles event. He is well-known for his former partnership with Goh V Shem, which began at the 2014 Thomas Cup. Together, Tan and Goh won the gold medal in the men's doubles and the mixed team event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. They also won bronze at the 2014 Asian Games. In their Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio Olympics, they won the silver medal, becoming the first Malaysian pair to achieve such a feat since 1996. In November 2016, they reached a career-high ranking of world number 1, making them the fourth ever Malaysian men's doubles pair to do so, after Cheah Soon Kit and Yap Kim Hock, Chan Chong Ming and Chew Choon Eng, and Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong.

Terry Hee Yong Kai is a Singaporean badminton player. In mixed doubles with Jessica Tan, Hee won his first World Tour title at the 2022 India Open. Hee together with Jessica Tan also won the gold medal in the mixed doubles event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, a first for Singapore in that discipline at the Games. Terry Hee and his wife Jessica Tan were nominated for the Straits Times Singaporean of the Year Award 2022. Terry Hee and Jessica Tan are Singapore's first local-born mixed doubles duo to qualify for the Olympics, and will make their debut at the Paris Olympics 2024.
