The Big Ten Conference is the oldest Division I collegiate athletic conference in the United States. Founded as the Intercollegiate Conference of Faculty Representatives in 1896, it predates the founding of its regulating organization, the NCAA. It is based in the Chicago area in Rosemont, Illinois. For many decades the conference consisted of 10 prominent universities, which accounts for its name. As of 2014, it consists of 14 member institutions and 2 affiliate institutions, with 4 new member institutions scheduled to join in 2024. The conference competes in the NCAA Division I and its football teams compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), formerly known as Division I-A, the highest level of NCAA competition in that sport.
Calbert Nathaniel Cheaney is an American basketball coach and former player who serves as Director of player development for the Indiana Hoosiers men’s basketball of the Big Ten. He starred as a player for the Indiana Hoosiers men’s basketball from 1989–93 under coach Bob Knight. Cheaney ended his career as a three-time All-American and remains the Big Ten's all-time leading scorer with 2,613 career points. He led Indiana to a 105–27 record and the NCAA Tournament all four years, including a Final Four appearance in 1992.

The Northwestern University Wildcat Marching Band (NUMB) is the marching band at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. The ensemble performs at all home football games and periodically makes appearances at events in the Chicago area. John William Shurna is an American–Lithuanian professional basketball player for Gran Canaria of the Spanish Liga ACB and the EuroCup. He is the 2012 Big Ten scoring champion. He played in the 2012 NBA Summer League with the Atlanta Hawks. He then signed with the New York Knicks, but was waived at the end of the preseason.
Andrew Eugene Crawford is an American professional basketball player for Hapoel Holon of the Israeli Basketball Premier League and the Basketball Champions League (BCL). He played college basketball for the Northwestern Wildcats. He was the 2009–10 Big Ten Freshman of the Year (media) and is a two-time Academic All-American as well as a third team 2011–12 All-Big Ten selection. He was a third-team All-Big Ten selection by the media and honorable mention selection by the coaches in 2014. Crawford was named the Italian League MVP after leading Vanoli Cremona to the Italian League Semifinals in 2019.
The Northwestern Wildcats women's basketball team is the intercollegiate women's basketball program representing Northwestern University. The school competes in the Big Ten Conference in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Wildcats play home basketball games at Welsh-Ryan Arena on the university campus in Evanston, Illinois, but played the 2017–18 season at Beardsley Gym on the nearby campus of Evanston Township High School during renovations to Welsh–Ryan Arena.
Bryant Scott McIntosh is an American former basketball player and current assistant coach for the Northwestern Wildcats of the Big Ten Conference. He played college basketball for the Northwestern Wildcats. He holds the Northwestern single-game, single-season, and career assist records. He was a 2017 All-Big Ten team second-team selection and led the 2016–17 Northwestern Wildcats to the first NCAA tournament in school history.
Patrick O'Neal Baldwin Sr. is an American assistant college basketball coach for the Valparaiso Beacons. He previously served as the head coach of the Milwaukee Panthers basketball team. He played college basketball for the Northwestern Wildcats, and played professionally in Bosnia and Croatia.
Pete Lucas Nance is an American professional basketball player for the Cleveland Charge of the NBA G League. He played college basketball at Northwestern and North Carolina.
Victor Lamar Law Jr. is an American professional basketball player for the Ryukyu Golden Kings of the Japanese B.League. He played college basketball for the Northwestern Wildcats.
