Khalilur Rahman Chowdhury was an Indian politician.

He was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly the lower house of Indian state from Jamunamukh Vidhan Sabha constituency in Assam from 1996 to 2006. He was a member of the Asom Gana Parishad. Later he joined Indian National Congress. [1] [2] [3]

He died in July 2020 from COVID-19, aged 94. [4]

He was representing the Barhampur constituency in Assam Legislative Assembly from 1991 to 2021 and Nowgong constituency from 1985 to 1991. He also served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly from 2010 to 2014 and again from 1991 to 1996.He became the chief minister in the state when the AGP came to power in 1985, becoming the youngest Chief Minister of an Indian state. He is also a former president of the All Assam Students Union,an organization that spearheaded the Assam Movement from 1979 to 1985.In August 2005, his membership in the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) was terminated. So, he floated a new political party, Asom Gana Parishad (Progressive) on 15 September 2005.

The Twenty-third Amendment of the Constitution of India, officially known as The Constitution Act, 1969, discontinued reservation of seats for the Scheduled Tribes in Nagaland, both in the Lok Sabha and the State Legislative Assembly and stipulated that not more than one Anglo-Indian could be nominated by the Governor to any State Legislative Assembly. Prior to the amendment, the number of Anglo-Indians who could be nominated to the State Legislative Assemblies, was left to the discretion of the Governor of the State. Drupad Borgohain was an Indian politician. He was a veteran leader of the left-wing in the Assam state. As of 2014 he was the secretary of the Assam State Council of the Communist Party of India (CPI), a position he held since 1987. As of 2010 he served as president of Assam state council of All India Kisan Sabha.

Sirajuddin Ajmal is an Indian politician of All India United Democratic Front who is serving as the Member of the Assam Legislative Assembly representing Jamunamukh constituency since 2021 and from 2006 to 2014. He was also served as the Member of the Parliament, Lok Sabha from Barpeta constituency from 2014 to 2019. His brother, Badruddin Ajmal is also the Member of the Lok Sabha.
