Nkhumeni "Khume" Ramulifho (born 27 February 1979) is a South African politician of Rise Mzansi, previously the Democratic Alliance where he served as Federal Youth Leader and a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature for the party. From October 2011, he was the DA Gauteng South Chairperson, until joining Rise Mzansi in January 2024. [1] [2] [3]
Ramulifho joined the Democratic Party (DP), the predecessor to the DA, in 1998 while still a student at the then Vaal Technikon, and spent the following years rising through the ranks of the party's youth movement. [4]
After serving in various positions, he became the national leader of the DA Youth in 2008, a position he held until 2010. Ramulifho was elected to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature in 2009, and later served as DA's provincial spokesperson on education. [5]
He ran unsuccessfully for one of the three DA Deputy Federal Chairperson positions in 2010, but was instead elected as the Regional Chairperson of the DA in Gauteng South the following year. [4]
In March 2018, Ramulifho announced his candidacy for Deputy Chairperson of the Federal Council. He was not elected at the DA's elective congress. [6] [7]
In October 2019, Ramulifho declared his candidacy for the post of interim Federal Chairperson of the Democratic Alliance after Athol Trollip resigned. [8] He lost to Ivan Meyer.
In January 2024, Ramulifho announced that he was leaving the DA to join Rise Mzansi. [9]

Natasha Wendy Anita MazzoneMP OSI is a South African politician who served as the Chief Whip of the Official Opposition in the National Assembly of South Africa from October 2019 until August 2022. She has been a Member of the National Assembly, representing the official opposition Democratic Alliance (DA), since 2009. She was the second Deputy Federal Council Chairperson of the DA and the party's spokesperson on state capture. Mazzone has previously served as Shadow Minister of Public Enterprises and of Communications.
Annelie Lotriet is a South African politician who is currently serving as the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of South Africa since June 2024. She has served in the Official Opposition Shadow Cabinet since she joined the National Assembly in 2009. She is also a Deputy Chairperson of the Democratic Alliance (DA) Federal Council.
Makashule Gana is a South African politician who is the chief organiser for RISE Mzansi. He previously served as a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature for the opposition Democratic Alliance. Between 2014 and 2016 he was a member of the National Assembly, where he was Shadow Minister of Human Settlements. Gana also served as the Deputy Federal Chairperson of the DA until 2015. He was previously leader of the DA Youth and DA councillor in the City of Johannesburg, he holds a BSc degree and is currently registered for a Postgraduate Diploma in Management at the Wits Business School.
Jacobus Frederik "Jacques" Smalle is a South African politician who has served as a Democratic Alliance Member of the National Assembly of South Africa since 2023 and previously from 2010 to 2014. Smalle served as a member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature twice from 2009 until 2010 and again from 2014 until 2023. Smalle is currently the Democratic Alliance's Limpopo provincial chairperson. He had previously served as the party's Limpopo provincial leader and as deputy federal chairperson of the party. He was the DA's Limpopo Premier candidate for the 2019 election.
Mmusi Aloysias Maimane is a South African politician, businessman, and leader of Build One South Africa, a political party. Maimane is also the former Leader of South Africa's opposition Democratic Alliance (DA) political party from 10 May 2015 to 23 October 2019, and the former Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly of South Africa from 29 May 2014 to 24 October 2019. He became the first black South African to lead the DA.

Solly Tshepiso Msimanga is a South African politician serving as the Leader of the Opposition in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since May 2019. He has been a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since February 2019, having previously served from 2014 to 2016. Msimanga was the Executive Mayor of the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality from 2016 to 2019 and the DA Provincial Chairperson from 2014 to 2017. He is currently the Democratic Alliance's Gauteng Premier candidate for the 2024 elections. Msimanga was the party's unsuccessful candidate for the 2019 elections.
Good is a South African political party that was formed in December 2018. It is led by its founder Patricia de Lille, current Minister of Tourism and former mayor of Cape Town, who is also the party's sole member in the National Assembly. The party's stronghold is the Western Cape and mainly draws support from the Coloured community.
Ivan Henry Meyer is a South African politician who has been serving as the Western Cape Provincial Minister of Agriculture, Economic Development and Tourism since 2019. He has held multiple positions in the provincial cabinet. Meyer was elected to the Western Cape Provincial Parliament in 2009. He has also been the Federal Chairperson of the Democratic Alliance (DA) since November 2020, a position he previously held in an acting capacity from November 2019 to November 2020. Meyer had served as the First Deputy Federal Chairperson of the DA from 2010 to 2012, and again from 2015 to 2019. He was also the provincial leader of the party in the Western Cape from 2012 to 2015.
Thomas Charles Ravenscroft Walters is a South African politician of the Democratic Alliance (DA) who has been serving as a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament since May 2024. Previously, he served as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature from 2009 to 2014 and then as a Member of the National Assembly of South Africa from 2014 until 2024. In 2012, Walters was elected Deputy Federal Council Chairperson of the Democratic Alliance, and has been deputising Federal Council Chairperson Helen Zille since 2019. He deputised James Selfe from 2012 to 2019. Walters was the party's Shadow Minister and Shadow Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform.
John Clifford Moodey is a South African politician who is currently serving a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature on behlaf of ActionSA.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) held its leadership conference virtually between 31 October and 1 November 2020. It was originally scheduled to be held in May 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The previous congress was held in 2018. In October 2019, then-party leader Mmusi Maimane announced that the party would seek to hold a policy conference and early elective congress in 2020. Maimane and former party chair Athol Trollip have since resigned from their positions and the DA. The party elected John Steenhuisen and Ivan Meyer as their interim successors, respectively.
Michael Sean Moriarty is a South African politician. He served as the chief whip of the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. He was elected to the legislature in 2009 and resigned from it in 2021. He was also the provincial chairperson of the DA in Gauteng. Moriarty was previously a City of Johannesburg municipal councillor.
Refiloe Nt'sekhe is a South African politician who has been a Member of the Provincial Legislature since 2014. She served as Deputy Speaker of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature from June to July 2024. A member of the Democratic Alliance, she served as one of the party's deputy federal chairpersons between 2015 and 2023 and as one of the party's national spokespeople between 2015 and 2020.
Retief Odendaal is a South African politician who served as the Mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay from 21 September 2022 until his removal in a motion of no confidence on 26 May 2023. Before serving as mayor, he was a Member of the Provincial Legislature in the Eastern Cape for the Democratic Alliance and was the Shadow Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Finance, Rural Development and Agrarian Reform from May 2019 until August 2022.
Andrew Grant Whitfield is a South African politician who is currently serving as Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition. He is also the provincial leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Eastern Cape.
Frederik Petrus Nel is a South African politician who has served as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature since May 2009, representing the Democratic Alliance. He is the DA's Gauteng Shadow MEC for Roads and Transport. Nel was elected as the DA provincial chairperson in 2020 and re-elected in 2023.
Baxolile Babongile Nodada is a South African politician for the Democratic Alliance who has been a Member of Parliament since 2019. He served as the Shadow Minister of Basic Education and the Parliamentary Counsellor to the Leader of the Opposition in John Steenhuisen's Shadow Cabinet from 2020 until the DA entered national government in July 2024.
Rise Mzansi (RISE) is a South African political party founded in April 2023. It is led by Songezo Zibi, a former newspaper editor and co-founder of the Rivonia Circle think tank. The party characterises their ideology as social democratic but has been defined elsewhere as neoliberal.
Ramulifho said he was standing for the position because his interest was to drive the debate towards the party's policy conference, which will be held next year.
