Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, formerly known as North West Frontier Province (NWFP), is a province of Pakistan. Located in the northwestern region of the country, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is the fourth largest province of Pakistan by land area and the third-largest province by population. It is bordered by the Pakistani provinces of Balochistan to the south, Punjab to the south-east, the territory of Gilgit-Baltistan to the north and north-east, Islamabad Capital Territory to the east and Azad Kashmir to the north-east. It shares an international border with Afghanistan to the west. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has a varied landscape ranging from rugged mountain ranges, valleys, plains surrounded by hills, undulating submontane areas and dense agricultural farms.

Under his command, the elements of Pakistan's administrative XI Corps participated in numerous operations against the Soviet Union.

The June 2011 Peshawar bombings occurred on 12 June 2011 in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. At least 34 people were killed, and more than 90 were injured, when two bombs exploded in a market around midnight. Three people were hurt when the first bomb exploded at 11:50 p.m. local time in the commercial and residential area of Khyber market. After a crowd gathered in the area, a teen-aged suicide bomber on a motorcycle set off a second explosion, killing many people on the spot. About 10 kilograms (22 lb) of explosives were used in the second blast according to officials. Police and rescue teams soon reached the spot and cordoned the area.
The May 2011 Peshawar bombing occurred in Peshawar, Pakistan, when a car bomb was detonated as Nasrullah Khan Afridi entered his car after leaving the Tribal Union of Journalists offices. The bomb instantly killed Afridi. No one has been suspected or arrested for the attack. As a tribal journalist, Afridi made many enemies through his journalism. The incident took place in Peshawar's Khyber super market.

Sayed Amjad Hussain is a Pakistani-American cardiothoracic surgeon and writer from Maumee, Ohio. He invented two surgical devices – the pleuroperitoneal shunt and a special endotracheal tube. He was a member of Team Indus which covered the entire 2,000 miles of the river Indus in Pakistan from its source in Western Tibet. This trip was claimed to have been the third expedition in history to reach that site. The achievements of Team Indus were entered into Congressional Records of the U.S. Congress in June 1997. While on a humanitarian mission, he donated tons of supplies and equipment to the Dominican Republic, China and Pakistan. Also, his photographs have appeared on 35 magazine covers and in 8 calendars. The Herald Magazine August 2003, introduced Hussain as the jack-of-all-trades and master of many.
Ibrahim Jalees born Ibrahim Hussain on was a Pakistani journalist, writer, and humorist. He has authored several books of the short stories such as Chalees Karor Bhikari and Tikona Des and the novel Chor Bazar. He joined the Daily Jang newspaper and wrote his columns titled Waghaira Waghaira which made him famous. He also worked as an editor of Musawat, Karachi, the daily newspaper of the Pakistan People's Party. Later he launched his own weekly magazine, Awami Adalat.
