Kim Zwarts (Maastricht, 1955) is a Dutch photographer.
Kim Zwarts studied at the Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts. He has worked as a photographer on several architecture books, including monographs of Thom Mayne/Morphosis, Luis Barrágan, Wim Quist, Antonio Gaudi, Alvar Aalto, Charles Vandenhove, Wiel Arets, Dom H. van der Laan and Gerrit Rietveld. Zwarts has realized art commissions for Royal Sphinx, Mercedes-Benz, Limburg Water (WML) and Maastricht University.
Study grants from the Netherlands Foundation for Fine Arts, Design and Architecture in 1990 and again in 1999/2000 enabled him to conduct photographic research. On both occasions he spent extended periods in the United States.
Zwarts’ freelance work has appeared in Pale Pink (1994), Beyond (1997) and Maastricht 148 (2000). Exhibitions of his work have been held in, among others, the Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht, Centre Céramique in Maastricht, at the Liège Photo Biennale, the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, the Netherlands Photo Museum, the Berlage Institute in Amsterdam, the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, and the Maly Manezh Gallery in Moscow. In 2001 Zwarts designed a facade motif for the glass and concrete walls of the Utrecht University Library in the Netherlands.
Kim Zwarts’ work has received national and international recognition in the form of the Kodak Award (1989) and the Werner Mantz Prize (1997). His work has been included in several public and private art collections.
In several of his work, for example Maastricht 148, Kim Zwarts selected the subjects of his pictures by drawing a grid over a specific area. The crossing points on the grid appear in the pictures.

Maastricht is a city and a municipality in the southeastern Netherlands. It is the capital and largest city of the province of Limburg. Maastricht is located on both sides of the Meuse, at the point where the Jeker joins it. Mount Saint Peter (Sint-Pietersberg) is largely situated within the city's municipal borders. Maastricht is adjacent to the border with Belgium and is part of the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion, an international metropolis with a population of about 3.9 million, which includes the nearby German and Belgian cities of Aachen, Liège and Hasselt.
Abraham Bloemaert was a Dutch painter and printmaker who used etching and engraving. He initially worked in the style of the "Haarlem Mannerists", but by the beginning of the 17th-century altered his style in line with the new Baroque style that was then developing. He mostly painted history subjects and some landscapes. He was an important teacher, who trained most of the Utrecht Caravaggisti.
Fine-art photography is photography created in line with the vision of the photographer as artist, using photography as a medium for creative expression. The goal of fine-art photography is to express an idea, a message, or an emotion. This stands in contrast to representational photography, such as photojournalism, which provides a documentary visual account of specific subjects and events, literally representing objective reality rather than the subjective intent of the photographer; and commercial photography, the primary focus of which is to advertise products, or services.
Mosan art is a regional style of art from the valley of the Meuse in present-day Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany. Although in a broader sense the term applies to art from this region from all periods, it generally refers to Romanesque art, with Mosan Romanesque architecture, stone carving, metalwork, enamelling and manuscript illumination reaching a high level of development during the 11th, 12th and 13th centuries.

Maastricht Institute of Arts, formerly known as the Academie Beeldende Kunsten Maastricht and the Stadsacademie voor Toegepaste Kunsten, is a cluster of visual arts education from Zuyd University of Applied Sciences in Maastricht. The institute offers higher education in Bachelor of Education, Fine Arts and Design, Communication Design, Architecture and Interior Design, Interdisciplinary Arts, and in Master of Scientific Illustration, Architecture and Interior Design. Since 2020, the institute, in cooperation with the Academies of Music and Theatre, the Jan van Eyck Academy and Maastricht University, has offered the possibility of a doctorate in the visual arts. The institute focuses on the meaning of art as a phenomenon in its own right, with its own insights and laws.
The Van Eyck – Multiform Institute for Fine Art, Design, and Reflection is a post-academic institute for research and production in the fields of fine art, design and art theory, based in Maastricht, Netherlands. The academy was established in 1948 and was named after the painter Jan van Eyck. In 2013, 39 researches from countries around the world were working and studying at the institutes premises in Jekerkwartier. In 2012, the Hubert van Eyck Academie / Caterina van Hemessen Academie was established as a ‘teaching bridge,’ linking the Jan van Eyck Academie / Margaret van Eyck Academie with Maastricht University and other Maastricht art schools.

Wiel Arets is a Dutch architect, architectural theorist, urbanist, industrial designer and the former dean of the college of architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, in the United States of America. Arets was previously the 'Professor of Building Planning and Design' at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), Germany, and studied at the Technical University of Eindhoven, graduating in 1983. The same year later he founded Wiel Arets Architects, a multidisciplinary architecture and design studio, today with studios in Amsterdam, Maastricht, Munich, and Zürich. From 1995-2002 he was the dean of the Berlage Institute in Rotterdam, where he introduced the idea of 'progressive-research' and co-founded the school's architectural journal named HUNCH.
