Kimbamanduka (fl. 19th-century) was a Tanzanian elephant hunter, warrior and pazi (chief) of the Zaramo people in the Pugu Hills area. [1]
From oral history, Kimbamanduka is remembered for helping the Mzizima (now, Dar es Salaam) people for protection against the attacks and expansion of the Kamba people from Kenya. Kimbamanduka's army successfully drove the Kamba away; as a reward, the Zaramo gained the right to collect taxes in the Buguruni, Mtoni and Kurasini areas. The Zaramo also migrated and mixed with the local Barawa and Shirazi population. [2]
The Chagga are a Bantu ethnic group from Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania. They are the third-largest ethnic group in Tanzania. They historically lived in sovereign Chagga states on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro in both Kilimanjaro Region and eastern Arusha Region.
Namanga is a town divided by the Tanzania-Kenya border. It is in Longido District, Tanzania and Kajiado County, Kenya. It is around 110 kilometers from Arusha, Tanzania. Namanga's economy has been heavily dependent on tourism since 2004 as tourists visiting the nearby Amboseli National Park passed through the town from Nairobi. The town is surrounded by hills on both sides. Mount Kilimanjaro can be viewed from Namanga town which makes it a scenic place by tourists who lodge in Namanga on their way to either Tanzania or Amboseli. The nearby Ol Doinyo Orok mountain, also known as Namanga Hills is located northwest of Namanga town. Namanga's latitude is S 2°32'39.8" and longitude E 36°47'20.2". The town has an urban population of approximately 10,000 while the rural population is approximately 5,500.
The Zaramo people, also referred to as Dzalamo or Saramo, are a Bantu ethnic group native to the central eastern coast of Tanzania, particularly Dar es Salaam Region and Pwani Region. They are the largest ethnic group in and around Dar es Salaam, the former capital of Tanzania and the 7th largest city in Africa. Estimated to be about 0.7 million people, over 98% of them are Muslims, more specifically the Shafi'i school of Sunni Islam. Zaramo people are considered influential in Tanzania popular culture with musical genres like Sengeli originating from their community in Kinondoni District. Their culture and history have been shaped by their dwelling in both urban and rural landscapes.
Pwani Region is one of Tanzania's 31 administrative regions. The word "Pwani" in Swahili means the "coast". The regional capital is the town of Kibaha. The region borders the Tanga Region to the north, Morogoro Region to the west, Lindi Region to the south, and surrounds Dar es Salaam Region to the east. Kamba, or Kikamba, is a Bantu language spoken by millions of Kamba people, primarily in Kenya, as well as thousands of people in Uganda, Tanzania, and elsewhere. In Kenya, Kamba is generally spoken in four counties: Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, and Kwale. The Machakos dialect is considered the standard variety and has been used in translation. The other major dialect is Kitui.
Ilala District, officially the Ilala Municipal Council is one of five districts of the Dar es Salaam Region of Tanzania. The district is bordered to the north and northeast by Kinondoni District and Ubungo District, to the east by the Zanzibar Channel, the west by Pwani Region, and to the south by the Temeke District. It covers an area of 364.9 km2 (140.9 sq mi). The district is comparable in size to the land area of U.S Virgin Islands. The administrative seat is Mchafukoge. Kisarawe District Council is one of eight administrative districts of Pwani Region in Tanzania. The District covers an area of 5,031 km2 (1,942 sq mi). It is bordered to the east by Dar es Salaam Region's Ilala and Ubungo Municipal Councils. The Kibaha District and Kibaha Town Council border the district to the north, and the Mkuranga District and Kibiti District border it to the south-east. By the Rufiji District to the south, and the Morogoro District of the Morogoro Region to the west. The district is comparable in size to the land area of Trinidad and Tobago. The Segeju are a Bantu ethnolinguistic group mostly based in Tanzania's Tanga Region and Kenya's Kwale County. Most Segeju reside in the small coastal strip between the Tanzanian city of Tanga and the Kenyan-Tanzanian border. However, some Segeju have migrated to urban areas in other parts of Tanzania or Kenya, in hopes of better employment opportunities and quality of life. Segeju migration to urban areas often results in severance of community ties, leading to a lack of transmission of important cultural traditions and language.
Kinyerezi is an administrative ward of the Ilala Municipal Council of the Dar es Salaam Region in Tanzania. Luguru is a Bantu language spoken by the Luguru people of the Morogoro region and the Pwani region of Tanzania. The name is also spelled Lughuru, Lugulu, Ruguru. It is closely related to Gogo and Zaramo, but is not intelligible with other languages.
The Kazimzumbwi Forest Reserve, officially listed as Pugu/Kazimzumbwi Nature Forest Reserve is a protected area located in Kisarawe ward of Kisarawe District in Pwani Region, Tanzania. It is located next to the Pugu ward of Ilala MC to the east, about 20 km (12 mi) south-west of Dar es Salaam. It covers an area of 4,887 hectares, at an altitude between 120 and 180 m. The reserve was established in 1936, but both agriculture and logging were tolerated for several years. Logging, in particular, went on until the 1970s.

The Pugu Hills Forest Reserve, officially listed as Pugu/Kazimzumbwi Nature Forest Reserve is a protected area located in Kisarawe ward of Kisarawe District in Pwani Region, Tanzania. The forest borders in the Pugu ward, of Ilala MC in Dar es Salaam to the east, adjacent to the Kazimzumbwi Forest Reserve. Together with Kazimzumbwi, the Pugu Forest is part of what is considered to be one of the oldest forests in the world. The area is characterized by a large variety of endemic species of animals and plants.

Zaramo is a Niger-Congo language, formerly primary language of the Zaramo people of eastern Tanzania. Zaramo is also known as Zalamo, Kizaramo, Dzalamo, Zaramu, Saramo and, Myagatwa. The language is critically endangered. The ethnic population of the Zaramo people reaches about 200,000, yet there are only a few elderly speakers remaining.
The Rally of Tanzania is an international rallying event organised by the Automobile Association of Tanzania. The rally is based in the port city of Dar es Salaam and travels south-west to Pugu hills for its competition stages. The event is a round of the African Rally Championship and the Tanzanian National Rally Championship.
The term Kamba War has been used by historians to refer to a conflict that took place between the Kamba people and communities living in regions around present day Bagamoyo, Tanzania. It has been argued that the Kamba attack forced the communities living in this area to unite against the enemy and that this unification led to the creation of Zaramo identity. The Zaramo are presently the largest ethnic group in the regions surrounding Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.
