The London Borough of Hackney is a London borough in Inner London, England. The historical and administrative heart of Hackney is Mare Street, which lies 5 miles (8 km) north-east of Charing Cross. The borough is named after Hackney, its principal district. Southern and eastern parts of the borough are popularly regarded as being part of east London that spans some of the traditional East End of London with the northwest belonging to north London. Its population is 281,120 inhabitants.
Dalston is an area of East London, in the London Borough of Hackney. It is four miles northeast of Charing Cross. Dalston began as a hamlet on either side of Dalston Lane, and as the area urbanised the term also came to apply to surrounding areas including Kingsland and Shacklewell, all three of which being part of the Ancient Parish of Hackney.

Dalston Kingsland railway station is a railway station on the North London Line in London, England. It is in the Dalston area of the London Borough of Hackney, on the western side of Kingsland High Street and opposite Ridley Road Market. The station and all trains serving it are operated by London Overground. It is in Travelcard Zone 2. Kingsland railway station was first opened on the site in 1850, but was replaced by Dalston Junction in 1865. The current station was opened by British Rail in 1983. Ticket barriers are in operation. The station straddles the boundary with the London Borough of Islington, with part of the platforms falling within Islington.
Hackney North and Stoke Newington is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom since 1987 by Diane Abbott, who served as Shadow Home Secretary from 6 October 2016 to 5 April 2020. Abbott was one of the first three Black British MPs elected, and the first female Black British MP in the UK. Abbott was elected as a Labour MP, but has been an Independent since having the Labour Party whip suspended on 23 April 2023.
Shacklewell is a small locality to the east of Roman Ermine Street, in the London Borough of Hackney.
Kingsland was a small road-side settlement centred on Kingsland High Street on the Old North Road, around the junction with Dalston Lane. It is no longer discernable as a separate settlement, though the historic street pattern remains. Since the opening of Dalston Junction station in 1865, the area has become known as Dalston, which was originally a separate hamlet further east. Historically part of the county of Middlesex, the area is within the London Borough of Hackney.
Graveney School is a secondary school and sixth form with academy status in the Furzedown area of Tooting, southwest London, England. The school has a partially selective admissions policy. In the beginning of 2015, the school was assessed in an Ofsted inspection report as outstanding.
St Edward's Church of England Academy is a coeducational secondary school and sixth form, located in the Romford area of the London Borough of Havering, England. It specialises in languages and science, and was founded in 1710, making it the oldest school in the area.
Clapton Square is the second largest garden square in the London Borough of Hackney, located in Lower Clapton, Clapton. It is lined by buildings on three sides. Its Conservation Area designated in 1969 – extended in 1991 and 2000 – takes in a larger green space separated by a stretch of open road: St John's Gardens. Those gardens have the tallest and largest building visible from all parts of the square's garden, the Church of St John-at-Hackney, rebuilt in 1792-97 which contains older monuments. Two sides of the square are lined with tall, partly stone-dressed, classical, Georgian terraced houses.
The Petchey Academy is an academy located in the Shacklewell area, and is based on the site of the former Kingsland School in the London Borough of Hackney, where its LEA is The Learning Trust.
Haggerston is a locale in East London, England, centred approximately on Queensbridge Road. It is within the London Borough of Hackney and is considered to be a part of London's East End. It is about 3.1 miles (5 km) northeast of Charing Cross.
The Suleymaniye Mosque is a mosque at Kingsland Road in Haggerston, East London, United Kingdom, which serves the entire Muslim community as well as the Turkish speaking community. The mosque was funded by the UK Turkish Islamic Cultural Centre (UKTICC) and the construction began in 1994 and was finally opened to the public in October 1999. With a total floor space of 8,000 square metres, the total capacity of its Ottoman style mosque is 3,000 people.
