The Kinsale Sevens (also known as Heineken Kinsale Sevens, Kinsale Sevens By The Sea) is Ireland and Europe's premier seven-a-side club rugby event.[ citation needed ] The event takes place across the May Bank Holiday Weekend (Friday to Sunday) at the Kinsale Rugby Football Club, [1] Kinsale, Ireland and sees teams from around the world compete against each other in ladies', men's (junior and senior) and veteran competitions.

Format

Participants find themselves battling it out over a two-day period (Saturday and Sunday - traditionally, the Friday is dedicated to a fun 10-a-side competition) with the finals of the feature events taking place on the Sunday.

The Singapore Cricket Club International Rugby Sevens is an annual rugby sevens tournament hosted by the Singapore Cricket Club (SCC). The event is one of the premier international club tournaments in Asia, involving teams from around the world. The trophy for the tournament, the Ablitt Cup, is named after Mr Bernard E Ablitt who was Convenor of the SCC Rugby Section from 1931-2 and President of the club from 1938-9. The silver Ablitt Cup was donated by Mrs Katherine Parentis in 1947 for the winners of the first seven-a-side tournament organised by the SCC Rugby Section. The tournament has since become an annual competition and one of the world's oldest rugby sevens competitions.

The Ireland national rugby sevens team competes in several international rugby sevens competitions. The team is governed by the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU), and has been led by Head Coach Anthony Eddy since 2015.

Kinsale RFC Rugby team

Kinsale RFC is a rugby union team located in the town of Kinsale, Co. Cork, Ireland - approximately 18 miles from Cork City. Founded in 1982, the club's 1st team competes in Division 2 of the Munster Junior League. Kinsale also fields various other teams including Ladies, Veterans, and have underage teams from U-8 up to U-18. Kinsale RFC is also home to Europe's largest Rugby Sevens event, The Heineken Kinsale Sevens, which is held at its Snugmore grounds every May.

Shamrock Warriors RFC was a Rugby sevens club founded in 2009 by former Leinster out-half Fergal Campion. They were the only 7's club in Ireland endorsed by the Irish Rugby Football Union and were established to represent Ireland as the only official Irish 7's team competing at the top level tournaments in Europe.

Gala Sevens is an annual rugby sevens event held by Gala RFC, in Galashiels, Scotland. The Gala Sevens was the second of the Border Sevens tournaments to be instated in 1884, just behind the Melrose Sevens in 1883.
