Kitui High School is a boys boarding secondary school in Kitui County and the only national boys secondary school in the county. It has a population of 1,500 students. It is located about 2 kilometers from Kitui town along the Kitui-Mbusyani road.

History

Kitui School began as an intermediate school in 1908 before changing to a boarding school in 1948. [1] The school was by that time known as Campbell Academy. It started offering A-level classes in 1971.

Nyeri High School, also known as Nyeri High, is a boys boarding school situated in Nyeri, Kenya near Mathari Consolata Mission Hospital, which provides secondary education as stipulated by the 8-4-4 Curriculum. Despite being acknowledged as an academic giant in the region, the school has also developed a notoriety for student unrest culminating in the death of four school prefects in a fire caused by student arson and followed a few years later by a student strike that led to an official government inquiry into the running of the school.

Dr. Julius Makau Malombe,EGH is a Kenyan politician and the first and current elected Governor of Kitui County. He is elected on a Wiper Democratic Movement-Kenya (WDM-K) which he won the 2013 elections garnering 163,904 votes. He defended his seat on Wiper ticket in the 2017 general election but lost to Charity Ngilu coming third behind former senator David Musila however he recaptured the seat and won after the 9th August 2022 gubernatorial elections with 198,004 votes defeating former senator David Musila who had 114,606 votes and Jonathann Mueke with 10,639 votes. As the pioneer governor of Kitui he is credited with much of the development gains made in the region. On 12 December 2022 Dr. Malombe was awarded the Elder of The Golden Heart by President William Ruto.

Philip Nzamba Kitonga was a Kenyan lawyer and politician.

Muthale Girls' High School is a girls' boarding secondary school in Kitui County. It is the only other national school in the county after it was elevated to national school status in 2011. The school is located along Kitui-Mwingi road in hilly terrain of Mutonguni and borders Muthale Mission Hospital. The school has a population of 800 students, 30 teachers and 15 subordinate staff. It is one of the best performing schools in Kenya.

St. Paul's Gekano is an extra-county school located in Nyamira County, Kenya. St. Paul's Gekano was started in 1964 by the Catholic Diocese of Kisii under the headship of Rev. Father Tiberius Charles Mogendi. Records indicate that it is the oldest established secondary school in Nyamira County. It is a boys' school offering secondary education of the Kenya education system. The school offers boarding facilities to all the students.

Kyuso is a town and sub-county in Kitui County, Kenya. Before the 2009 Constitution of Kenya implemented counties, it was in the Eastern Province and was a division of Mwingi District.
