The Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon is an annual marathon foot-race run in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA, established in 2005. A prize fund of $10,000 is distributed between the top finishers in the marathon and half marathon.

History

The 42.195-kilometre (26.219 mi) race was established in 2005 and has been run annually ever since.

The 2020 in-person edition of the race was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, with all registrants given the option of running the race virtually, transferring their entry to 2021 or 2022, or obtaining a refund. [2] [3] [lower-alpha 1]

The Knoxville marathon celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2024. [5]

Course

The course starts in Downtown Knoxville at Clinch Ave. bridge near the Knoxville Convention Center in the shadows of the Sunsphere. The race boasted a unique finish, ending on the 50 yard line of the University of Tennessee's Neyland Stadium, from 2005 to 2018. In 2019, the finish line was changed to World's Fair Park [5] due to stadium renovations and this remains the finish line today.

The course time limit is 7 hours.

The Detroit Free Press Marathon is a 42.195-kilometre (26.219 mi) race run every third Sunday in October in Detroit, Michigan, United States, and Windsor, Ontario, Canada, since 1978. Major General Stan Connelly and Jerry Coyle organized the first international marathon. MaryJane Hatton recorded the times as the runners crossed the finish line. After each marathon Stan Connelly and his daughter MaryJane Hatton would compile a booklet entitled, “We’re All Winners” of every runner and their times. The marathon course is international and has featured the Detroit–Windsor Tunnel for all but two years of its existence. The current course crosses the Ambassador Bridge and the Detroit–Windsor Tunnel between Detroit and Windsor. Due to its use of the tunnel, the race is able to boast that it has the only official underwater international mile in the world, as the tunnel runs underneath the Detroit River. The race is a USATF-certified, Boston-qualifier course.

The Dallas Marathon is an annual marathon road running event usually hosted in December by Dallas, Texas, and is Texas' oldest marathon, having been held every year since 1971. The marathon begins and ends in Downtown Dallas and runs around White Rock Lake. The Crim Festival of Races is an annual road running event with several races and walking events. The original distance was 10 miles and is the marque race as "The Crim" with its infamous Bradley Hills and blue line to keep runners on course. The Crim has been held in August in Flint, Michigan since 1977. It draws runners from around the world from countries such as Kenya, Russia, and Ukraine. The race attracts approximately 50,000 people each year. The festival is one of the Flint Parade of Festivals.
