Kortowiada is a student holiday (Juwenalia) taking place in the city of Olsztyn in northern Poland. A wide bunch of Polish artists perform at the concerts, for example O.S.T.R., Maryla Rodowicz or Kamil Bednarek. [1]
Main organiser of the event is the Student Council of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn.
The name of the event is related to the district of Kortowo where all related parties are held. First Juwenalia in Kortowo were celebrated in May, 1958, [2] and were organised by students of the Agricultural and Technical University (Akademia Rolniczo-Techniczna). For many years, the event was arranged as a joint project with students of the Higher School of Pedagogy (Wyższa Szkoła Pedagogiczna) under the name of ‘Żakinada’. As a result of the merger of the above schools into the University of Warmia and Mazury, Kortowiada grew rich with respect to its special party schedule. The annual event attracts more than 10 thousand of students from all over the country and hundreds of bands – Kortowiada is nowadays one of the most important student-related music events in Poland.
The whole event lasts for a couple of days. The official opening ceremony is synonymous with returning the key to the city to students by the authorities of Olsztyn. [3]
The official anthem of Kortowiada is a song of the same title performed by a famous folk band from Olsztyn – Enej. [4]
An essential part of the event and a sign of belonging are the Kortowiada T-shirts with a design different for each Faculty – they are selected by students each year. Anyone can purchase them at Kortosklep, the event-related shop.

The University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn is a public university in Olsztyn, Poland. It was established on 1 September 1999, in accordance with the new Statute of Sejm signed by Polish President Aleksander Kwaśniewski, as well as Minister of Education Mirosław Handke, in August of the same year. Ryszard Górecki became its first chancellor. The Faculty of Theology was established with an agreement between the Polish Episcopate and the government, in the presence of Cardinal Józef Glemp and religious figures. The university's first academic year started in October 1999.
Polish wine viticulture and origins have a history dating back to the nation's founding in the tenth century under the Piast dynasty. Like other old world wine producers, many traditional grape varieties still survive in Poland, perfectly suited to their local wine hills. The most popular varieties of grapes for the production of red wine are Regent, Rondo, Pinot Noir, Maréchal Foch, Cabernet Cortis, Tryumf Alzacji, Cascade, and Dornfelder. Following the Second World War, most wineries were nationalized under the Polish People's Republic communist regime. After the collapse of communism and return to capitalism, the market economy returned, international wine companies moved back in and a period of consolidation followed. Modern wine-production methods have taken over in the larger wineries, and EU-style wine regulations have been adopted, guaranteeing the quality of the wine. Today, wine production in Poland is an industry with 151 officially registered wineries to sell and produce grape table wines in Poland as defined by the national wine laws that came into being in 2008 and were updated later on.
Eugeniusz Geno Małkowski was a Polish painter. Małkowski was a professor of contemporary art at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, founder of artistic groups and associations throughout Poland, organizer of modern art exhibitions, and popularizer of art. He was known for his speed painting happenings in which he invited people to paint together. In 2005, in Bełchatów, he beat the Guinness World Record for the 24-hour-long-painting performance.
The Mendelsohn House is a former Jewish Tahara house in Olsztyn, Poland, today used as a center for intercultural dialogue. It also includes a gatehouse.
The Olsztyn Castle, officially the Castle of Warmian Cathedral Chapter in Olsztyn, is a Brick Gothic castle located in the heart of Olsztyn, in northern Poland. Built in the 14th century, it served as the seat for administrators of property of the Warmian Cathedral Chapter. The most well-known administrator caretaker was Nicolaus Copernicus, a canon of Warmian Cathedral Chapter in Frombork, who resided here between 1516 and 1521. The largest expository room is the refectory with a diamond vault built around 1520. Currently, the castle houses the Museum of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship.
Gustaw Marek Brzezin is an agronomist and Polish Peasants' Party politician. He is the Voivodeship marshal of Warmia-Masuria.
Ryszard Rynkowski is Polish singer, composer, pianist and actor. In the years 1978—1987 accompanist of Vox music band, a solo artist since 1987. His trademark is the scratchy, smoky voice. Joe Cocker himself therefore also called him the "Polish Joe Cocker".

IV liga Warmia-Masuria group, also known as forBET IV liga Warmińsko-Mazurska for sponsorship reasons, is one of the groups of IV liga, the fifth level of Polish football league system. The league was created in the 2000–01 season after a new administrative division of Poland was established.
